i have a 8 week old male named Klaus. I have had him 3 days and doing great with potty during the day. My issue is he goes 4 times or less/more at night. I leave for work at 3:30am and he has no/pee accident for my fiancee when he wakes at 8am. What do you suggest for night training? Crates by my bed and i hate not to have a potty pad in there because of cleaning purposes at 3am haha thank you!

Sheldon Was able to go trough the night from 11 to 6:30 when i was 10 week old. Sometime I just think he's a lazy pup and doesn't want to get up during the night. But watch out at 6:30 he does one hell of a pee ! ( outside of coarse )

I would not put the pee pad in there. The last thing you want to do is train a dog that peeing in a crate is okay. I'd make sure the crate fits him well, he should only really have room to lie down in there. Then when he has to potty he should make a fuss, as a dog's natural instinct is to not soil their "den" or sleeping area. You'll have to get up and take him out, possibly multiple times a night for a little while.

First thing is don't put a peed pad in the crate. You defeat the purpose of the crate when you do that. Are you controlling his water intake? No water at least 2 or 3 hours before bed time will possibly help. 8 week puppies sometimes have to relieve  themselves every hour or more...it can vary from dog to dog.

The create that you put him in should be large enough for him to move around but not big enough for him to be able to pee and poop and still be able to sleep away from it. Dogs by nature will not want to sleep where they may have to lay in their own shit and piss --- this is what the crate is meant for (also it teaches them to hold their bladder).

thank you to everyone for their replies! I did what ya'll told me to do with no pad and make the cage smaller. First night and no accidents and only 2 times taking Klaus potty! Technically 3 but that one time he decided he wanted to play with dandilion leaves haha.

Congrats! That's great news. Keep at it. :-)
