Do you ever get nipped at by your Corgi?  I get nipped at by Camber every month or two.  I always deserve it and she's never broken skin.   The other day, I was helping her off the couch and her toe nail struck a piece of furniture on the way down.  She went for my hand, but did not really bite and I knew I did her wrong, so I didn't reprimand her.

I had to hold her in a head lock last week at the Vet.  She needed a shot and boy did she go in a rage for a second.  Lucky I had good hold or that would've been a straight up bite.  She's quick to let you know she didn't like something, but is otherwise the mellowest dog on the block.

Tom nips at me when he doesn't want me to pet him, especially if I try to rub his belly. He used to do it for EVERYTHING, but I have been able to curve the behavior. I figure, that if he really doesn't want me to pet him, I should respect it.  I know that at times I don't want people to get cuddly with me.

Becca nipped me once. I let a yell out of me and out of reflex slapped her. I felt bad after for the slap, but then again she has never done it again. If she gets my fingers while playing tug or something I just yelp at her. She starts licking and apologizes.

Snickers snarls and snaps and acts all nasty, but has never bit. I don't think you "deserve" to be bit, and I was told by a dog behaviorist that they should never think it is OK to put their teeth on skin. I would treat her like you would a puppy, yelp and walk away. You get no attention if you bite. I have worked with Snickers to condition her to put up with being touched. I started with a treat closed in my hand; if she let me touch the top of her paw I opened my hand and she got the treat. We have worked up to her offering her paw for shake. I also have bribed her into my lap the same way. For two months she had to be carried up and down stairs when she tore her ACL. Man, she hated that!  Hopefully, Camber can be trained to tolerate being held at the vet. Practice at home, have a treat and gentle words ready at the vet. Good luck!

I see one thing wrong here....you NEVER deserve to be nipped at.  Dogs usually nip out of fear or pain.  But, that doesn't make it right.  You must correct them EVERY single time they do it.  It is part of being the leader.

Aggressive dogs will draw blood, dogs doing it out of fear or pain usually will let go once they start to put pressure down.  (This is your dog, not necessarily a strange one).

Don't ever accept it, under any circumstances.

My Annie nipped at me at times and she was difficult at the vet as well.  I think corgis are just naturally a little nippy but they need to know it isn't acceptable behavior.

I haven't gotten nipped but Shippo is awfully mouthy.  He used to ignore me when I'd yelp or otherwise try to get him to stop, it just made him do it more but now when I say ouch he starts licking.

The head lock though reminds me of when I brought him to ISU (Iowa State University) to get his eyes examined by an ophthalmologist.  Since there's a veterinary college there, students get to look at him before the vet/professor does.  By the time she saw him it took FIVE students to hold him in order for her to check his eyes.  He would get worse if I wasn't touching him so I had a hand on his back the entire time.  He's such a baby lol.

The only nip I would ever "allow" is if they were in pain and weren't thinking straight (hasn't happened thankfully). Otherwise it is corrected immediately - I do not tolerate teeth on skin.
