I've been in search of a fluffy corgi that would not only be another companion for myself and fiance, but would also be a nice long walk buddy for our corgi. I did some looking into the fluffies and I know they're usually not bred, but some corgi breeders do end up (by chance) having a fluffy in a litter. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on where to search for one. I recently have checked at local shelters and rescues and there aren't any corgis available to my knowledge. I could really use some advice from fellow corgi lovers. Please and thank you!

It took about 6 months of cruising Petfinder and a few visits to shelters before I found my dog.  But buying a puppy can also be a challenge.  My 6 months of searching is nothing compared to length of the wait-lists some breeders have.  At least when you start with an 8 week old puppy, you aren't dealing with bad habits that were ingrained by someone else.  However...I did foster a 2 year old pit mix that I pulled off the street in the 7th Ward of New Orleans.  Despite probably being used to breed fighting dogs, she turned out to be a phenomenal animal and now lives with a family in Vermont with a couple small children!  If you start with a dog with a good personality and intelligence, love and training can go along way.

Thanks for your advice and input! I think I might have actually found a breeder in Ohio that might have a fluffy available. I understand exactly what you're saying on the whole training thing. I've dealt with a few dogs that came from rough situations and they turned out to be extraordinary dogs.

I didn't know there was a corgi breeder in Ohio.  Who is it?  I'll refer my mom to them next time she tries to stuff my dog into her suitcase before leaving my house.

You were right - there are no puppies petfinder right now!  But did you ask about this one in NYC: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/26820427? From the photos it looks a little fluffy and maybe a full-breed cardi.  This dude is pretty cute too in NC: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/23344433.  Aw, and this dude too: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/26779150, or this one: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/26217183.  Alright, enough dogs for tonight.

Good luck!

The breeder's name is Brenda. She was really nice to talk to an really informative to all the questions I wanted to know. Here's her site. http://siteskins.net/brynleacorgis/3.html

Thanks for all the links! I didn't know there were corgis for adoption in NYC. Do they even adopt out as far as Maryland? I hope so! That first one you sent me is really cute!

I think they just got that guy a few days ago.  I know a lot of non-profit rescues allow out-of-state adoptions.  However, sometimes public shelters don't because they lack the staff or volunteers to facilitate transportation.  Or in the case of the shelter I adopted from, they are legally required to have papers signed in-person by the adopter (though they will let 3rd party rescues organizations "adopt" the dog, then that rescues send the dog out-of-state to it's final home).

If you can drive or fly-in to pick up the dog yourself, I think most rescues would be much more comfortable with that than you sending money to have the dog shipped to you.  That lil dude in NYC might be small enough to bring home on a train or plane as a carry-on!  I flew with Fauna when she was 21 lbs without a problem on Southwest.

Good luck!  Hopefully you find somebody fluffy to love soon!

With him being in NYC, we'd probably just drive up since we live in Maryland. But that's really good that some shelters allow that though! Thanks you so much!

You may be in luck!  I just saw a fluffy up for adoption!  I will get back to you ASAP when I find the site t hat had it...Maureen

That would be amazing! Please get back to me as soon as possible!

Fingers crossed!!!

Sad news, the breeder a friend recommended to us didn't have an current fluffies available. So our search continues on. Hopefully we'll getting lucky and we're keeping our fingers crossed.

I found this posting on Craigslist today. He is fairly fluffy. It may be a little far for you though.
