Wanting to be close to us - is this a bad thing?

Fortie is six months old now. As with most Corgi's he loves attention and to be close to us. One of the things is does is sit as close as possible to us with his paw on our foot. I like this because it's one of the reasons I wanted to get a Corgi: we had a Corgi-cross when I was growing up who did the same thing and it was so nice. Fortie doesn't do it all the time, just sometimes.

Anyway, we had the dog trainer over last night and she said we should stop this by moving away because he's too needy and wants to be in control. But I don't know about this...we have rules he has to live by and are trying to teach him to go to his mat so he doesn't jump all over us or other ppl, but is it necessary to stop him wanting to be close to us? He's not doing anything bad, just sitting there. Anybody know anything about this?

It's stripy! I'm so glad we didn't dock...I always thought we would but I couldn't go through with it when it came down to it...

Our corgi William is cuddly in the evenings and no-cuddles in the mornings. I like that about him (his paw on my foot or leg) but then again, we aren't trying to "train" him. He doesn't jump on other people, he doesn't growl or try to scare people away, but he does seem to like to be close to his family members. (I think its OK/good)

Exactly. My understanding of Corgi is they come a long line of generations bred to be family dogs. They worked on farm lands and they are often described as a "one person loyal" pets. They love to please and be close to their owners and family. Wally's the same when I move around the home on the first level. He likes to follow and just stay close, either in the kitchen to living room where he can keep an eye on us.

It's not anoying at all as he's not in the way. He does have his moments where he wants to be by himself and I've seen him go upstairs on his own sometimes to go to bed before us. He does like the dark and usually, even if pumped up or on alert, I'll bring him on his soft fluffy blanket and if he senses me calming down he follows.
