I want to treat Arrow to a chew toy, a real gnaw all day long if I let him chew toy.
I know this can be a controversial issue haha so let me tell you what I have already etc.
He loves his puppy Kong. He will get into it if it has an actual dry treat stuck in there or I freeze his kong with about 1/4 cup of wet down food. But he could care less about chewing if its just peanut butter or yogurt, it'll occupy him way less time if things arent falling out. Just licks what he can reach and moves on.
I have a Kong tire - same story, has to be rattling with yummies or he will just lick it.
He treated ice and carrots like chew toys this past month so it hasnt come up before.
He has a range of toys. But I would love to get him something that it's sole purpose is to chew. He is teething, lost 2 of those front teeth this week. So something puppy friendly.
Nylabone seems weird - nylon?
What about rawhides - I hear all sorts of things both good or bad.
Bully stick? What IS a bully stick? There are all sorts of shapes and sizes around here.
I live in LA so I am sure I can find whatever healthy good uber dog chew toy you guys can come up with. I hear controversial stuff about it all. It's ok to be a supervision only chew toy.

I give Wally rawhides, any sizes does for him, even the huge ones for Saint-Bernard... :)
The pig hoof slice is cheap and last forever but the smell is horrible.
The Kong with a piece of ice in it does last him a little bit. I haven't tried freezing it yet. Do you have to put it in a bag first or just directly in the freezer??
He doesn't care for the Nylon Bones, even with the "taste" that supposed to be in them.
I haven't tried him on the antlers as I’ve heard they can be risky for a dog with high chew instincts, to break teeth and/or jaw. Not sure if this is over the top review but I don’t want to risk it plus they’re crazy expensive.
But what he’s been having lately is a type of Raw Hide, rolled skin (hard) with some white substance in the middle. They cost about 5-6$ for an 6-8inch and they last a few days. Can’t remember what they are but Wally’s been having a good chew on them.
Any other toys made of semi flexible rubber, hard mesh types or rope he tears in seconds. He usually pierce the material and then uses his front teeth to pull the fabric apart. So I keep them for play fetch or just outside, as he used them as chew toys.
I just wet the food down so its a bit soggy, shove it in the kong and stick it in the door of my freezer. It drips a little wet dog food juice in the spot I lay it in the freezer for a moment but easy to wipe up weekly. I will try sticking a piece of ice in his kong, great idea!
I buy the economy cow ears from bestbullysticks.com. They're cheap, don't smell too bad and the dogs love them. Mine take maybe 30 minutes to eat one, but I'm sure it would last longer for a puppy. They also sell all kinds of bullysticks and other chews. I personally don't like rawhides because my dogs try to swallow them once the piece gets small enough and I worry about them choking.
A bullystick is a bull's penis. Fun fact, haha.
Dear Lord! This is what Wally has been chewing last night and I've been teasing him by holding one end in my mouth (dried part) for him to get the other end. I don't know If I should be sick or tell anyone about it... LOL.
Oh well, meat is meat right.. :)
HAHAHA! The things you learn. Dogs love gross. Meh, people do to.
We have a joke/rule that we can't give arrow people food unless it comes from your mouth holding the other end hahah. Mostly, it just keeps people from giving him any scraps. But I figure the people that are dying to give him a piece of chicken are at least telling him he's getting OUR food. Not his. Right from the dogs mouth.
I've been trying that with Wally lately that I don't allow begging but if I have cheese and crackers, with some pepperoni, he'll come running. He can make his cutty face as much as he wants but if he's real good I call him, put a piece between my lips and give it to him.
Just his nose touches mine and his wiskers tickle a bit but he's not going in my mouth.. lol
I beleive it reinforces a pack mentality and dominance thing. My wife finds it strange but I tried to explain it to her.
I give Foxy a Himalayan dog chew occasionally and they keep her busy for 1 or 2 days. They are 100% natural. They are made from yak or cow milk, lime juice and salt. They are hard as a rock but it's actually a type of cheese, but trust me you'd never know it. Their website is himalayandogchew.com if you want to research it some more. They aren't cheap but last a long time.
I like this! I am gonna look into it!
I found them this Friday at the Local Pet Store. They told me it's a new product they're trying.
It's that Himalayan Yak Cheese (condense - hard). Wally loves it and it's been lasting the entire weekend so far. It was a bit long so when he dropped it it broke in half. The edges where it split were a bit sharp.

Microwave the pieces for him!
Yes but I've been told to do it about 10 seconds at a time, as it'll heat up real hot like a rock. So I let it cool down for a few second and try another 10seconds. At about 30seconds the thing just Popcorn real fast so have your finger ready on the stop button.
Plus be careful cause the ball will be very hot so don't give it to your dog right away. I let it run under cool water before he gets it.
Ha ha! So now you know what a bully stick is!
We used to give them to Charley the Golden Retriever, because he would annihilate anything else in a matter of minutes & because the vet said they were safer than cow ears and assorted other store-bought chew toys. A bully stick would take him a lot longer. Of course Cassie the Corgi had to have one, to avoid all-out mayhem. That was pricey: bully sticks are expensive even when purchased in lifetime supplies at Costco.
Also, they stink to high heaven. Charley was and remains prone to stomach upsets, and we began to suspect the bull dongs were part of the problem. So those have left the doggy repertoire in our parts.
Frozen stuff inside a frozen King works OK but doesn't last long. Charley also liked to chew on ice -- this also doesn't last long, but it also doesn't stain the floor and doesn't stink.
