Hi All,
Rory's labs came back on his first stool sample and while he is currently worm free (yay!), they confirmed that he has both Giardia and Coccidosis (Woohooo! Fun times! Not.) The vet assured me that these are very common in pups and since I got him from a breeder who also had livestock, chances are good that he got it from the "grown ups" romping with the cows and bringing it back to him. Now let's hope he doesn't give Montezuma's Revenge to me.

Anyway, he is on Albon for the Coccidosis and Panacur for the Giardia (which is currently dormant and thus he is asymptomatic). The Albon is easy- half a pill that can be disguised with a little peanut butter, but the Panacur isn't going so well.

The vet tech recommended canned food for mixing but I am concerned because he has done so well on the kibble following a brief picky-eater strike and I don't want to get him all off course with canned food. I'll do it if it is truly the best and only way for his health, of course, but I was wondering if any of you have had experience giving it another way aside from mixing it with wet food or sprinkling it onto kibble. I don't know what that way would be, but I figured I'd ask.

Other than that, he is turning into quite the clown and is starting to really come out of his shell (maybe a tad too much!)

I would agree with the wet food. I've tried peanut butter but it was not good LoL!

How about yogurt or pumpkin?   Then you can feed the kibble and just add that on top.  I haven't used Panacur, but I used yogurt and pumpkin to mix in probiotics, which are also granules.

I wouldnt mix it with the wet food, if hes a picky eater.  Try the yogurt and canned pumpkin like beth suggested.  Plain canned pumpkin not the pie mix.

Excellent! I will try the pumpkin. Hopefully he will continue to do well on the kibble when all is said and done.

He's probably around 7-8 pounds at this point- how much pumpkin do you all recommend to mix with the packet of Panacur?

I'd say the least amount that successfully masks the powder.  Maybe a tablespoon?

We always just put a little warm water in the kibble and sprinkled it on top.

Success- added about a tablespoon to the kibble + a tinge of warm water and mixed it with the powder. He gobbled it right up. He wouldn't take it with just the pumpkin and powder, so I had to mix it with the kibble (I didn't want to waste the dose...) Hopefully, everything will clear up soon and he will take to eating his regular kibble again in the morning. Fingers crossed!
