Can you imagine your dog getting a hold of your stash? Plant buds and/or high contents of eaten THC could probably kill your dog. My understanding is something with blood pressure dropping excessively, let alone the risk of depression. I don't even want to imagine trying to walk a dog who's High, or being at the dog park.
Although, it could make the agressive dogs more docile at the play park. :)
Joking aside, it's a ridiculous idea marketed to increase dog food by 50% with all those pups experiencing "the munchies".

Oh my gosh. Really? My first thought is that's rediculous. Yet, when my dog was going thru cancer treatments, I would probably have considered it if I thought it might have helped him feel better.

One wonders what it would do to a dog. Would it make the dog sick(er)? It's something to think about...but seems a little iffy to me.

I saw a documentary about medical (can't spell it) pot for children who had such uncontrollable seizures they were actually dying until they tried the pot treatment. I didn't realize they could make it in liquid and pill form and take out it's intoxicating quality so the child doesn't get high. It really was amazing. Parents were actually moving to CO so the child could live a normal life. Not sure why it would be given in any other form if you could avoid having to smoke it and risk lung disease. I am sure they don't make dogs roll their own. :D

Can't imagine smoking anything, unless suicide is your gambit. It's certainly easy enough to cook weed into food (or food-like substances...), and I suppose in theory you could blend it into a fruit smoothie. Might taste a little funny... ;-)
My son says the dope available today is MUCH stronger than the stuff we aged hippies had in our misspent youth. He advises staying away from it. Bourbon, evidently, is much to be preferred. But don't feed that to the dog, either.

I can easily see cannabinoids having veterinary uses for some things, but I marvel at how they evaluate pharmaceuticals for animals who can't tell us in words how they're feeling.
Marijuana is a very complex mixture. Cannabidiol (BCD) is among the more medically interesting compounds, and does not get you high or confused (the mental confusion, to me, is unpleasant and undesirable, although it passes quickly).
Legal now in Washington, I recently tried some of the edibles (I hate smoking, and it is almost certainly carcinogenic). 5 ug (microgram) doses, analyzed, controlled, and you're not patronizing organized crime. 5ug turns out to be quite a mild dose, and you don't have to worry about getting accidentally baked. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Don't drive or use power tools, of course. We will find out what the downsides of this new policy are -- I was scared enough on my bicycle when the drivers were merely drunk; now they're drunk, stoned, and (worse) on cell phones. I worry about access by young people (I never encountered this stuff until I was a senior in college), but they have had plenty easy access via organized crime for a long, long time. I know of at least one perpetually stoned person whose life is a mess, and whether the cannabis is a cause or a symptom, who knows? Post hoc. A drunk wiped out a family in my neighborhood a few years ago. I hope the stoners just miss their turns and get lost.
I overheard long ago about someone who dosed their dog with LSD once, and the dog had a permanent personality change (for better of worse?). I think one of the Dead used to dose his horse with LSD. That's ugly.

Presentations from our local Street Drug Unit (occasionally through our work) confirms that marijuana has been getting stronger over the years. What used to be 12-15% max THC now is the range of 30-35%, and sometimes more potent than anything you've ever tried. Unless you grow yourself for personal use and know what you're doing, there's no chance knowing what you're eating or smoking.
But my concern is with second hand smoke. You see, I can be around a few that smokes a joint by themselves or share, but I'm not going to get high just by the second hand smoke.... unless you're stuck in a non-ventilated room with a Bob Marley wannabe.
But considering that dogs sense of smell can be in the range of 10,000 times more sensitive than humans, I can see this being quite a problem for any pups in a home with cigarette or pot smoke.
I can see probably to consider for dog with terminal illness or acute pain, but the matter is that a large majority will purchase the product just to get stoned with their dogs... and that's abuse IMO.
