Looking for a Pembroke corgi puppy.

hello, I've been checking out this site for a few weeks now and have been looking for a Pembroke Corgi pup to add to our family. We live in Chicago. we had to put our last dog to sleep due to old age. I've had her for 14 years and the house just doesn't feel the same without a furry buddy to come home too. Does any body know of a good breeder in illinois? Also what would the average cost be for a corgi puppy.

Hi Ray-Welcome to the site. I know there has been a couple of classified ads running in the Chicago Tribune for pups in the last couple of weeks. I know of a breeder in Oneida (sp?) IL-Sunny Garden Farms. Otherwise roam around here on the site, there are a few breeders here that are out of state. There is also an area on this website that has breeder info. You will find lots of really nice, knowledgeable folks here.

I live in Texas and I shopped around A LOT. Corgi puppies typically range from $300 (backyard breeder) to $600 (good bloodlines). See a lot of $450 and $500. Good luck! Ask about hips and eyes if you want your new pup to live as long and happily as your last ^_^.

Ray-

If you are not doing rescue, you should purchase your pem from a reputable breeder who is a member of the PWWCA and the regional corgi club, which is Lakeshore in your case. Their website is: http://www.lakeshorecorgi.com/members.htm. A high quality, healthy pem puppy will range between $900-1500. Some members do not appear on the Lakeshore Directory by choice, so you should ask the regional chair about some of the kennels named on this page. Note: Reputable breeders never post classifieds!

Winston was $250 but he has some pretty decent bloodlines.. I have no idea how I got a pretty decent deal.. Maybe because of his deadly farts?! Haha no but seriously... I'd check out some Illinois Corgi rescues too, sometimes they have puppies.

I don't know where people are finding the low prices on corgis. In our area a backyard breeder would be 250 to 350 and a breeder is going to be at least $800. We have gone both ways and my experiance is that you will pay more in vet fees if you don't go to a reputable breeder.
