This breed is ridiculous
Meg and I thought it was maybe just our own skewed perception, and that we only noticed Atlas goofiness because we are around him all the time.
We had some friends over last night, and there is such a stark contrast between Scout (our carolina dog) and Atlas (the corgi). Scout just kind of hangs out, she'll wag her tail when you pet her, and likes to do normal dog things like sit on the couch with you and sleep, or hang out on the floor with her bone.
Atlas, on the other hand, had to be the center of attention at all times. He spent pretty much the entire night climbing back and forth between the couch (where my friends were sitting) and the chair (where I was sitting). He was so excited to have house guests that he was crying on and off and flopping onto their laps with his belly up in their air hoping to catch a rubbing. He's a good dog and that he will go off the couch if we tell him, but when we have more dog friendly people over we let him do whatever he wants.
Anyone else feel like their corgi is like a toddler?

Leo goes crazy for company. He attacks my brother with hugs and kisses as soon as he gets in the house or yard. Leo is friendly to strangers also, the plumber, mailman, neighbor etc. I think Corgis love attention and like being goofy.

If a friend sits on the floor here, Bear, Tasha and Linus take that as an invitation. All three do the floppy thing, whining, woofs, nosing under your arms, sometimes under the crook of a bent knee. I feel obliged to say that they are NOT attention starved....!

They are by far the most enthusiastic dogs! Between that and their dramatic tendencies it makes them great fun. That is why I always tell people when they ask about them not to get one unless they want a family member! A slightly goofy family member!

Meg and I sometimes joke about how we wish we would've never gotten a corgi (usually this is at midnight when Atlas is still trying to stuff a toy in my face), but I honestly think his termpermant is perfect and wouldn't want any less a crazy pup.

Dax does the same thing. And if it happens to be a girl, or anyone with long hair, that sits on the couch, you can bet he'll jump up on the back of the couch and try to chew on their hair. If that doesn't work, he'll promptly jump down and run for his toy, drop it at their feet, and make soft little bark/growl noises. Anything to get the attention on him, he'll do it. When he gets frustrated because no one will pay attention to him, he'll give it one more shot by groaning and rolling onto his back, paws in the air. I swear I think he knows how cute he is and what he can do to make people notice that.

Ginny practically assaults my house guests with kisses. She gets so excited her whole body wiggles then she jumps up on them and goes straight for their ears! Some of my friends are ok with it... but obviously not everybody is thrilled with such an "affectionate" dog. We work hard to get her to settle down and then she gets petted. But even then, she still demands being the center of attention. She'll only really leave them alone when I give her a chewy treat to go work on.

Both of my corgis, can not wait to greet anyone that comes through the door. Our aussie is more cautious of anyone new. On the other hand, all three of them know when their kids walk through the door and that includes my nephew I babysit, He hadn't been over for a couple of weeks and he got dropped off this morning, Good lord you would have thought he had dog food in his pockets they were so happy to see him. Taz has just figured out in the past few weeks how to get himself up on the couch and he likes to show this new skill off to anyone who dares sit on the couch.
I had a few people tell me when I said I wanted a corgi that they were not kid friendly dogs, they could be very mean and you had to watch them all the time with strangers. I have yet to meet a dog friendlier then my corgis, or more excited to meet new people.

I do. Now that we have 2 it's like a day care center for 2 year olds. My living room hasen't looked this bad since my kids were little and they even picked up their toys. Max is more laid back than Molly but they are wild. Molly just kind of viberates if you know what I mean.

Totally! I laughed, because I always say I have perpetual toddlers. And as for drama -- well, Ethel Barrymore got her name for a reason! My little drama queen. But now when I see others' dogs, I think something's wrong, because they don't have that hammy outgoing spirit. To say nothing of the perpetual smile.

Well, Teggie truly is a toddler right now... She hams it up for the Dunkin Donuts ladies when I get my morning coffee, and goes full nub wag when we see anyone on our walks. She loves people, and MUST have their attention. Whine-y growls of frustration follow any attempt to ignore her. She thinks she is adorable... and she would be right, of course! Corgis get away with being a little annoying because they are so darned friendly and cute. Only a complete cold-hearted snake could ignore them!

They're the middle of a 6-year war with no end in sight, with an economy deeper into the doggy dooley than anytime since 1929, while they're wrecking our atmosphere and climate and can't seen to agree what to do about it. And they keep having so many puppies!
Yeah, this breed is ridiculous all right. They do Frantic Random Acts of Perversity. And we are dependent upon them for our food, our jobs, our treats, fun, and evrything else. Hitched to their star. The scary thing is, they really may actually be the most intelligent species on the planet, and that may not be enough.
I think we have to help them. Whaddya think? Can we do it?
