Two nights ago I was laying on the couch reading and Finn was on the floor next to me and all of a sudden he started making this noise that sounded like the buildup to a sneeze without the actual sneeze. It was like having the Ah-Ah without the Choo. He just kept doing it over and over and at first I thought he was dreaming so I woke him up and he kept doing it. I made him go get a drink of water and he stopped after that. Later once we had gone to bed I woke up to him making that noise again. I turned on the light and he looked at me and stopped. Again during the night last night he was doing it. I can't figure out what it is and why it just started. It's not a sneeze and not a cough otherwise I would think maybe allergies were to blame. Any ideas?

Sounds like a reverse-sneeze. :)

Scared the heck out of me the first time Piper did it - she just was bouncing around over excited. I'd never heard it before (my Shepherds never did it.) That said, now all of my Corgis (except Caleb) have done it though. Might be a touch of allergies, dreaming funny and sucked in a little air, etc... Mine do it more in the heat, too.

Simon sounds like a snorting buffalo when he does it; usually I just have him get up and move, and it corrects itself pretty quick. If it gets worse, or there's discharge, etc, I'd pop Finn over to the vet to get a look-see, of course.
Wow, I've never heard of that but your right, that is what it sounds like. It seems to only happen when he's asleep or falling asleep which it sounds like is a common time to do it. Maybe I should try giving him some Benadryl or something.
Hi, Yep sounds like a reverse-sneeze to me too. All my Corgi's have done it, but Tucker seems to do it the most. I call it the "snokee's". Even my vet said that's a good name for it. When Tucker starts doing it, I just re-asure him that he is ok and try to get him to move a little. That usually stops it. Poor little guy! I feel so sorry for him, but he recovers very quickly.
The reverse sneeze is pretty normal. The first time I saw it was at a dog show and the breeder just put her hand over the dog's nose so he would breathe out of his mouth. She said it means they sniffed some dust or hair up his nose and it will clear on it's own. Some people say massaging under the neck will clear it too. Mine do it too. Apparently they are just fine.
I had no idea that was so common. I don't think we've ever had a dog that did that. Maybe that means it's time to vacuum! :)
Ha Ha! It is always time to vacumn at my house! We are used to it but I think some of our visitors are a little shocked at the hair.
