I always laugh when I see the ad for it! I don't think I could get with in two miles of mine with it. Sparty tore a nail partially off as a puppy and has a damaged nail bed as a result. He rips his nail about once a year and we usually have to go to the vet to have it removed the rest of the way. Long story short, he does not tolerate clipping his nails very well. I just take them both to the vet and let him do it. It is worth it to not have to deal with it. Also, we walk on pavement often so they wear down most of their nails. Probably could use it on the doberman, she will tolerate anything.
Walking on pavement. Thanks, good advice.Sorry to hear about Sparty's nail problem. It must be pretty painful for him sometimes.I use to have the groomer clip her nails. It was easier that way but I started to do it myself to save money.I did decide that today I'm going to just be more patient with her and even if i can just trim one or two nails at a time then eventually it will get done. It just bothered me that she was so scared over the whole process and I didn't want her to associate those feelings with me.Sounds silly I'm sure. Thanks for your reply. Wish me luck.
We use Dremel as well. When we got our dog, Pedi Paws didn't exist. Pedi Paws is basically a fancy Dremel with a cover marketed for dogs. Dee Dee doesn't like nail clipping, and I tried once & gave up. She doesn't mind Dremel, and falls asleep when I flip her upside down to do her nails. Try turning on the Dremel/Pedi Paws while you give your dog treats, but not actually do the nails until they are used to the sound. I don't have to do Dee Dee's nails that often since she walks on the pavement as well, but when they get long, I do the touch up with Dremel. You can purchase Dremel at stores like Target or Wal Mart, but may have more varieties at Arts/Crafts stores or hardware stores like Lowes or Home Depot. Good luck!
Thank you for your comment.I definitely will use the turn her over on her back trick to do her nails. I'll have more leverage that way.I don't know why I never thought of that before. I actually just used the hand clippers on Zoey again the other day and while she didn't love it thankfully she was alot less scared than the last time.Thank god, I couldn't go through that torcher again. I decided to try touching her paws and nails alot at random times to see if maybe she would trust me more. So at this time it looks like Zoey maybe ok with hand clipping. I looked at the dremel for the first time and I have is no doubt that it would do a good job.
i have a pedipaws for a while now.. you need to use it every week to keep the nails down, if you let them go too long it takes FOREVER to get them short enough with the pedi because it removes so slowly, and my autumn gets to restless. so most times i have my husband hold her and i hand cut her nails with a regular trimmer then follow up with the pedi to smooth them out. my mom has a pedicure one it works the same, but her corgi will NOT allow a hand trimmer anywhere near she will bite..but with the the electric she is better.. all depends only what your dog will or will not allow.
Thank you for your comment. That makes alot of sence to hand clip them then smooth the nails after because sometimes I feel like Zoeys's nails are alittle scratchy after I hand clip them.
Leo and Randy have their nails clipped at the vet every month. They both seem to hate it and cry like they are being killed, once it is done they are no worse for it. A treat and all is forgotten. My vet has a few techs that are really good at nails and one girl has Corgis herself and knows how to do them.
Leo and Randy are so cute! I think that is a great idea to have the same people always clip her nails.I don't know why I never have thought to take Zoey to her vets office.I use to take her to a Petsmart for grooming and she always seemed to get a different girl every so often. Thank you for your comment.
Awww.Your pictures are so cute.I sometimes miss the puppy stage and it makes me want to get a companion for Zoey. Zoey is doing much better now. She doesn't enjoy having her nails clipped but she tollerates it much better.I have heard great feedback from lot of people who use Pedi Paws or Dremel It just seems that I'd just have to be more patience with the process to of getting her use to it. Thaky for your comment.Sometimes Zoey reminds me of having a 2 year old toddler in the house again. She is so funny!
We got pedi paws for Gwenie and she is ok with it but it really doesnt work on her nails. They just don't trim down with it,I feel it was a waste of money. I take her to Petsmart for her nails they do a great job and no stress for her.Your pretty Zoey is going to be like a two year old for two years! Gwenie isnt 2 yet but still our little pretty baby girl, oh yeah wild puppy still!! Good luck on the nails it takes time.
Thanks for your comment.Your Gwenie is such a pretty lady! I've heard a few people have that same problem with Pedi Paws. I'm glad your satisfied with Petsmart. I could go crazy shopping in there. Sam's club also has a good selection of treats in bulk for dogs.:)
