Do you make your own dog treats???
Just wondering if anyone else does this...I have a recipe that my dogs love and I make it once or twice a month...now I don't take the time to cut out all those cute little dog bones but I put it on a cookie sheet,roll it out bake it and cut it with a pizza cutter after it has cooled a few minutes...total time including baking is a 45 min. job so I figure it's good ingredients and saves a fair amount of$$$ plus my dogs love it and it works well for trainig except they do break if you put them in your pocket. I freeze them and just take a few out at a time...

I don't make dog biscits, but I make pup pops which is a super easy recipe!!
PUP POPS
1 32 oz vanilla yogurt put into a big mixing bowl
2-3 bannanas mashed or sliced depending on preference
2 tablespoons cinninamon
2 tablespoons chunky peanutbutter
1 bag frozen blueberrries or frozen cherrrys
mix everything together and scoup into little containers I go to my local resturant supply store and buy 8oz papercups then wrap in saranwrap and freeze. the fruit can really be anything you want I generally use blueberries and cut up apples, or I've left fruit out (never the bannanas though) also.

Hi, Jane -- no, I have never made my own dog treats, even though I have tons of recipes for them and I should to cut down on costs. However, Christy Fry's recipe for PUP POPS sounds pretty good right now considering it's over 100 degrees outside -- LOL!

Sounds like a great idea Deanna...here's my favorite or should I say my dogs favorite...
Peanut Butter Poppers
2 cups whole wheat flour
1TBSP baking powder
1 cup peanut butter (chunky or smooth)
1 cup milk
optional ingredients: 1TBSP ground flax, garlic powder, 1tea. boullion, 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1smashed banana
Heat oven to 375'F. In bowl, mix flour and baking powder and any other dry ingredient(stir well) In a 2nd bowl, mix peanut butter and milk then add to dry ingredients. I grease my large cookie sheet or jelly roll pan with olive oil,place dough on it flatten by hand as much as possible, sprinkle with a little flour and finish by rolling it with a rolling pin.I bake for 15 -20 min until lightly brown. Cool 5 min. and cut with pizza cutter. Cool and put in airtight container, freeze or refridgerate! *** check after 15min. as these do burn easily.

WARNING: if you leave these sit out on a plate...people may think they're a cookie and try them! My bro in law did this and you should have seen the look on his face!!!! Had there been sugar they probably would have been great...just not what he was expecting!

Made some yesterday in preparation for today, my father grabbed one and took a huge bite, he didn't like it so he tossed it to my mother's teacup pomeranian. I think he figured out what it was once he took a bite

Mmmm, the recipes sound delicious! I have not made my own treats. I have thought of it, but never followed through.
I did mix a little bit of Step 1 baby food, which was just mushed up chicken, with some water and froze in ice cube trays, and my dog loved them. It was very easy, but babyfood is expensive. (I used baby food because it had no onion in it, while most chicken broths for grown-ups do contain onion).

The ice cube tray works well...I've done this for treats on their food...I would cook chicken or liver and add brown rice and then put into the trays and freeze...this worked well and a fun "treat" to add to their food or I guess you could give it separate too...I never thought about that there might be onion in the broths I use...oh no...and I'm such a label reader!
