Callie has been getting worse with her barking when I have to leave. My neighbors don't seem bothered by it, but I don't like the fact that she barks loudly when I leave to go to class, or anywhere else. Is there something I could do to get her to stop? I know that she barks for awhile after I leave, and that she does howl too. I am not sure how long after I leave that she continues but I know she will keep barking after I'm out the door and to my car.
I know that she misses me and doesn't want me to leave, but I can't stay home with her all day every day. And I am never gone for extreme amounts of time.
Can anyone help?

(Oh and I really have NO money to spend on buying anything. I'm one of those poor college students.)

That is great Lusa!
Just curious, do you have a plastic kennel or a wire one? I had this exact same problem with my Aussie when he was a pup and living in an apartment, I just knew someone was going to complain. He had a plastic kennel. One day I bought him a wire kennel because he was outgrowing the plastic one, I have never heard a peep from him since! I talked to his trainer and she said it made sense because most dogs like to be able to see what is going one around them.

Wire kennels are quite expensive new, but you can often find used ones on craigslist for $15-20. Just an idea to try if you don't already have one!
I also found a wire kennel made a difference with Violet. She always hops in her wire kennel when I get my purse and shoes on to go. Sometimes I forget to slide the latch to close it but she seems to feel better in the wire kennel.
