so I bought Olive (just under 3mths old) some 6in odor free (...lies!) bully sticks, and have cut them in half so that they last longer.  Only problem is that once she gnaws them down to a certain thickness and length, she swallows them!  They get to about a half inch and length before she woofs them down... should I induce vomiting, or is she fine?  Also, which breath freshners are the best?  lol...

I don't think you have to induce vomiting. Just from now on take them away and either hold them or toss them if she's swallowing big chunks. Hold them so she learns to chew the last bits as well.

We use Dingo dog freshening treats and also brush their teeth once or more a week. We don't use greenies just because of an issue they had in the news a while back and just never tried em.
Finn will do that with rawhides. I give him one only if I am in the room and can supervise and I take it away when it gets down to the last 2 inches or so. Just watch her to make sure she continues to go to the bathroom normally and eat normally after having swallowed a large piece and do not let her have more until you are sure (I'd give it a few days). If she does begin to show signs of an intestinal blockage you'll need to take her to the vet but more than likely she will be fine.

I gave a Bully stick to Finn once and after about 10 minutes I had to throw it out. The smell was so awful I can't think of anything to compare it too (at least nothing PG). Were they trying to find the most rank smelling part of the animal, because I think they succeeded. I will never buy him those again!
Heh...try cow hooves. Most of those are so rank-smelling that you swear you stepped in something.
Thanks for the heads up!
Brushing their teeth is the best breath freshener :) It's way cheaper than dental bill!
Bully sticks are the grossest things! They smell vile and they give Jack loose stools. Yuck!

I have found that Milk Bone Natural Snacks (the round ones) do a great job on their breath. They have some cringe-worthy ingredients (dextrose? and the always mysterious "animal digest"). But they really do the trick for mine. One every two or three days or so would suffice. The texture is unusual; hard but slightly chewy, not crumbly, which means the dog really has to bite into them. Just be careful with a pup to read ingredients; many treats say "not for puppies under six months."
Update: Olive is good! BMs are normal, and she's frapping and playing just like normal. I will, however, start taking it away when it starts to get too small. Thanks for the replies!
Olive......awwwww.....I love that name. She is a doll. Glad she is doing well. :o)
Bully sticks kinda gross me out, so i have never tried them. Plus My fiance had tears in his eye when i told him what they were...

Sam had once suggested bone marrow bones on an earlier post, so i decided to give them a try. OMG! Best ever! They are only about $3-4 and you can reuse them! I bought 3 and after roslyn took the leftover meat off, i have refilled them with peanut butter, yogurt, her dinner...and freeze them! She has fun for hours and plays "flip the bone and chase it" after she is done eating.
Thanks Sam!
Oh and brushing Roslyn's teeth after she has had the bone is a breeze. It does all the hard work for you!
Oh, great idea about refilling and freezing! We have hollowed-out marrow bones all over the place...it looks like a cow exploded! I'll gather them up an fill them. You could probably also put some canned dog food in there too. I like the idea of re-using. :)
Bone marrow bones good for soon to be teething puppies?
Try Greenies for breath. They work, dogs seem to like the flavor although they don't look like much (we call the cat ones crack because they go mad for them!), and they last a reasonable amount of time while they work on them. Also, raw bones (like big cow ones and such) are really great for teeth cleaning and their breath. Plus they can substitute for a meal.
