I know there is a lot of disscusion on the kind of food to feed your dog ( i feed blue buffalo) but what do you give your dog as a treat when training?  i have been watching kiko pup on youtube and she says to give a high value treat to get good envolement.  I have been trying cheese and sausage and the thing my dog  likes the best is cat food. I know it is high in fat but it isnt as messy as cheese or sausage.  what are some treats that your dog will stand on their head for and aren't messy?  i know dried apple and stuff like that but i want stop in your tracks treats.

Thanks for all the ideas. Now if she were only a little taller so i didn't have to bend over so far haha!!!
Teach her to catch! Sorry just had to say that...my dogs all catch popcorn and most other treats!
How would you teach that?
I taught mine with Cheerios, then moved onto a toy. You don't want to always toss treats, though, or they get real grabby with their mouths. :-)
Finnigan will catch popcorn but nothing else. He'll just let the rest hit him in the face. I don't get it.

We taught catch by using toys since they are much easier to catch, specifically a loofa dog since they are long. I'd get him worked up and say "catch. catch it." then toss it upwards so he had time to make the grab. he caught on fast. Now if I say "you wanna catch" or "catch it" he sits and his eyes get real wide. :)
Jack knows the names of his toys. I taught him catch with one ball, nobbly wobbly. He got to the point that if I said "Get nobbly wobbly", he would. And if I'd say "Wanna play catch?" he'd also get that same toy.
Finn learns the names of his toys too but it seems like once he learns it's name it becomes his favorite and thus he destroys it. The two that are lasting are his big blue ball "ball" and his stuffing-less dragon "dragon". he knows bone too but he has so many we don't differentiate between them.
