So we got Willie about 2 weeks ago and he's been living in cali with my girlfriend till she graduates(college) and he finally gets to come with us by ourselves! I think he's been a little timid from adjusting and he's been dealing with two dogs (pit mix female and a male choco lab) but now he'll be in a single dog home :) We figured out his "playing ball" isn't really with tennis balls... he LOVES his football though! it's his now because he got to the laces -_-'  Oh well I love seeing him get all worked up! He's got a scary man bark I always look around when he barks to see what dog did it. He's such a cuddle bug I love it but he's not walking too well on a leash... He also tends to climb on jess(gf) when he gets scared, but what fun would it be if we didn't have something to improve on right? We are looking for a local pet store (las vegas) that would have a shoulder backpack for him to carry his hiking supplies because I don't like the idea of him supporting weight on his long spine... Any supplies I should be looking into? Besides a lint roller and a horse hair brush haha

We are going to be living in an apt but we have a hiking trail across the street and a dog park there too so exercise shouldn't be an issue. But I have a question he seems to pant a lot... even when he's not doing anything is there anything I can do to help that? I was thinking like a wading pool or something?

PS: Will include pictures asap haha

Make sure he's well hydrated, if the apt is carpeted, put a fan in the direction of his fav spot or turn the AC down a bit, a tile / linoleum area would be good too. Wading pool from walmart is nice and cheap, if water is his thing, go for it :)
yeah apparently wading pools yes, baths no haha. House is kept pretty cold and whenever we rub him down he's not hot. Could it be him adjusting to the different kind of heat? It's more dry here less humidity. AC and fan is done. He also salivates when it comes to the car and I can't tell if its anxiousness or anxiety :( he loves going everywhere with us though. Maybe a window down would be better then AC for the car?
The panting could also mean he is a little anxious if you are keeping your place cool. Exercise him in the morning and late evening to avoid the hottest part of the day.
Yeah I think he was anxious and adjusting he's calming down with the panting now I think he'll be alright once we move :)
Can't wait for pics. It always take some time to adjust as each dog situation is different! Enjoy!
I would not really use a backpack on him. They get so hot as it is, let alone carrying anything extra... The panting is probably anxiousness as you stated. They take a while to adjust to new situations like moving etc. Wading pools are an awesome idea. I got a sandbox turtle from a friend that was moving and am using it for a wading pool. I have to make our dogs get in it and splash water on them, but it does help keep them cooler. If you have an all carpet apartment, I saw somewhere that you can make a linoleum/tile pad for them out of wood and the tile/linoleum and adhesive. It was pretty cool. Hiking supplies: Harness, leash, water, food, collapsible bowl(s), ball/frisbee, florescent tape to attach to the harness so your corgi can be seen better. good luck!
Usually with my old dogs when we went hiking I would soak a bandanna in water and tie that around their necks, it usually helped a lot :) We are probably going to red rock canyon a bunch after this weekend if anyone's ever been there before it's probably my favorite place to walk trails and hike
Something else you can do is find a petco or petsmart and ask for the "Summer Shave" They will Shave their belly for them which helps cool them down a little more. I do this for Ella when it gets hot out here in Cali. She loves it and love ice on teh tummy. Try giving him a frozen bottle of water wrapped in a towel also. Frozen bananas make a good summer treat and are a little easier on the teeth than ice cubes. Just be sure they don;t shave so high up that he gets sunburned.
