I am not sure how to crate my dogs tomorrow as they are strong storms and my husband is on vacation and so my dogs will be home alone(9hrs) during the peak time for the storms. We have 5 large 3X5 foot windows along the backside of our home and a bathroom and 2 walk in closets that have no windows. Wiley is scared to death of storms so I figured I would put her and another dog or 2  in the bathroom with open kennels and 1 in the closet with the door open and another hall has no windows real close so I can put another on in an extra large kennel there. The basement has several window also and I don't want to have to carry kennels downstairs.

Any other thoughts???

Wow! Sometime's I feel so lucky to live in the Northwest we really don't have any serious weather issue's!! Do you cover your crate's? that maybe a good thing to do. I cover mine(plastic travel kind) with sheets to make them feel a little more den like. I also have plastic water bowls that attach to the doors that I'll freeze the water in for when I go to work and it's not really hot enough to leave the ac on but the house may warm up a little before the cool night air cools it back off.(just in case you lose power) I hope everyone makes it through safely and calmly since it sounds like you may experience some damage!!
It's suppose to 90+ and high humidity so the air will be on. I did think of a blanket but i'm afraid it will get too warm but I might do that for one of the crates (Wiley's)in the bathroom. We've been lucky so far as we've missed the damage by 10-20 miles but since I can't "run home" I don't want to have to worry...at least quite so much! Thanks!
Sorry I dont have any other ideas for you. Please keep us updated, hope everyone stays safe and hopefully not too much damage.
Thanks Natalie...who knows what will happen but at least I can try to keep them safe as we've had some wicked storms this summer.
oh gosh good luck. We've had some wicked storms this year too (and a tornado! in NW Conn!). We had the worst t-storm I've ever experienced on Friday night, and I was huddled in my bed with my storm lantern (no power) and lugged my 2 pups onto the bed with me -- who proceeded to lie on the their backs, feet in the air, snoring away. Meanwhile, the rain was so torrential you couldn't see out the windows, the lightning and thunder were continuous, bolts flying down into the ground, the house shaking like it wanted to take off... And they slept the whole time. Go figure. Hope you have the same good luck. Oh, and no damage and I was fine too ;-)
We had the same type of storm Fri. night...the lightening was continues and the wind was spooky! My dogs except for Wiley slept right through it as I watched out the window hoping there was no tornado coming!!!!
No experience with this on my part, so no real suggestions. I just wanted to wish you and the gang well and stay safe!
