I know all Corgis have a myriad of verbal, aduitory  and visual cues that trigger all kinds of amusing reactions. One of  best triggers  Gunny has is when I sit at the kitchen table paying bills . He sits by my feet watching intently. He listens carefully for when I tear a check from the check book. He will then run to the back door in anticipation of me  exiting to go to my car for a trip to the bank or to the postoffice. He seems to know that he will be taking a trip in the car to a place where he often gets a snack bone( to two or three) ! They even give me bones to bring home to him when I go to the bank without him.

When he hears aluminum foil or plastic wrap being torn he runs to his food dish. Why you ask?Because I have, in the past, picked up his food dish if he has left the food uneaten for very long ( wet food gets yucky if left out) and I covered it with one of those wraps before putting it in the frig. If I tear the wrap material and his food dish happens to be empty he will whine and run around the kitchen. Bonkers!

What are some of your Corgi's amusing triggers?

The UPS truck!!

As soon as Soffie & Griffyn hear it they run to the couch by the front window, jump up and look over the back of it out the window. And..... if the truck actually pulls into the driveway, Griffyn gets his nose right down to the door's threshold just waiting for the package to be dropped! Of course, since several toys for them have arrived via UPS, it's very difficult to get them to understand not every package is for them!! : )
Same with Sidney! He gets especially riled by UPS, not so much by FedEx or the USPS
When Poopdeck was a pup, the UPS man stopped by a couple of times, and gave him attention. So now he ALWAYS hears the truck and perks up whenever the truck goes by, even if sleeping. He is also not so taken with fed ex or USPS
LIke Jane's corgis, the cheese bag/door, also the meat drawer of the fridge, changing your socks and/or outfit all together (even just shoes); the word "Hat", since this is what I call their collars and they get different "hats" for going out on walks. Anything spoken in French to Buddha, especially the phrase for "What is it?" (no, I"m not going to write it, I haven't written French for eons, lol)
Annnd I"m sure others but can't think of them right now :)
Puck and Penelope know exactly what, "You wanna go for a walk?" means. Even if you just say the word Walk on it's own their ears perk up. My husband and I started spelling out the word around them so they wouldn't go nuts if we were planning on going later in the day. Well they caught on and they now go running for the back door if you spell out walk. I love waiting to ask them if they are in rawhide heaven because they always look so conflicted. "Chew or walk?" So I ask Penelope what she wants to do more and she's glance at the rawhide and then runs to where her leash is hanging up and points with her nose. My puppies sure love their walks.
Whenever anyone makes the sound "Pst!" really loudly, Bella goes insane. She runs around barking and acting absolutely ridiculous :P
Could be the ringtone.
The 'wheres mommy' phrase. Even though Im siting right there, when asked 'Where Mommy?' he runs around the room and then sits at my feet and stares at me :)

The other trigger is MMmmmMMMMmmmM lol of course that means food..

We have a quirky way to 'call' our corgi, we rub our fingers together (thumb, pointer, middle) we can hear anything but sure as heck he does, he'll be in the other room and we can rub our fingers together and here he comes running..This was something my sister trained her cat to do and we thought it would be amusing to 'call' a dog this way, and lone and behold it works!
The sound of plastic bags rustling- Mab thinks it's a sign that it's time to pick up poo and for her to go outside, so she runs to the backdoor in excitement!
Does anyone have a Corgi that acts like they are possessed by flies? Sally attacks and then hides for a long time. We have to try to hunt down the fly and convince her it is gone! When she is outside the reaction is very extreme. I don’t know what to do for her!!! She was kept in a barn for most of the time where we got her from. Any suggestions??
Wow that is a new one. Perhaps it is that exceptional Corgi hearing that causes her to react like that. Maybe she hears some little "no see um" insect that we cannot hear or see and just has an auto response due to growing up in the barn and perhaps getting bothered by those awful biting horse flies? Will she take a treat( something extra delicious that she never ever gets regularly) when she has one of those reactions? Maybe you can turn it into a positive thing by giving her something wonderful each time it happens.
We have a cow/calf ranch, and our dogs love to ride in the 6-wheeler and 4-wheeler, which we use often to check water, tag baby calves, move cattle, fix fence, etc. If we even barely act like we are going outside, my goodness we have a 4 dog barking spree that drives us nuts!!! They sound like barking popcorn!! Get them more excited, all we have to say is "let's go"! The word GO is a word we try not to use very much :( because it hurts our ears until we get them outside. They also love their "ooies (chewies) and they "oo" (chew) their "ooies"(chewies) so they look on top of the pool table cuz that's where we put their bag of chewies :) Whenever we spend any time in the kitchen and pull out the cutting board, they are right there waiting for something to "accidently" drop :) I wouldn't trade off our Corgis for all the money in the world :)
