Hoping for some advice...2 years old VERY active corgi has been limping for the last 3 days.  Here's the details:

* left front, licks and chews at his pads on that foot

* seems to limp much more in the morning, more on outside ground, less inside on tile floors

* no noise or pulling away if I push on the pads, pull on nails, or move the ankle joint

* no swelling at all

* still wants to play fetch, walk around, no signs of reluctance to move around or any noises of any sort.

I've examined the pads with a magnifying glass, & saw nothing.  I've soaked the foot for 10 minutes in warm, soapy water.  No diference.

day one I ignored it. Day 2, I gave a half asprin every 12 hours. He weighs 30 lbs.

day 3, skipped the asprin over night and then the limping was quite bad this a.m. so I waited till noon and gave him another asprin half.

I plan to go to the vet in the a.m. I guess.

But I'm thinkiing bruise? sprain?  Nothing can be broken or he'd react when I move the joint and there would be swelling, I think.

Ideas?

Adora one day was playing at the dog bark when all of a sudden she started limping, the next day she seemed fine until we got on rougher road and gravel walking path. Went a few days with no improvement on rough ground. I could touch put pressure on it and do anything and she wouldn't react. Someone on here suggested soaking it in warm water with Epson salt. I did it 3 times a day for 10 min, after a few days she was back to normal. Got it checked out just in case a few weeks later when we took our other dog in and vet said she could of pricked her paw between the pads or bruised it.
I'll try the epsom salts soak for sure. It just confuses me since he starts of really lame in the morning but by night is better. I'm hoping it's a bruise.
If it were a bruise you would expect the opposite: it would get worse with activity.

Stiffness after sleeping that improves with gentle exercise is more likely to be a soft tissue or joint injury that stiffens up when he sleeps.

Honestly after three days I'd probably check with the vet to be sure. Jack occasionally limps on his right front and I give it about two days, and it generally improves on its own. But persistent lameness deserves a check by the vet. Good luck!
I guess the only way a vet will know is to xray, is that right? Does the dog have to be sedated for an xray? pats wil well behaved but I don't think he'd lay still for an xray...sigh
Well, it depends on how bad it is. He may want to x-ray, but a vet can sometimes tell things by palpation that we can't. Jack was limping once on a vet visit and he had me walk him, then felt him all over. He could not pinpoint the source of the problem so he gave me some Rimadyl and said hopefully he would recover on his own in a few days and there would be no need for x-rays. And that is what happened.

Generally dogs need to be sedated for x-rays but you never can tell. I had a cat who was so terrified by the whole experience that she had x-rays on two separate occasions, once of her back and once of her lungs, without any need for any drugs. But of course scared cats tend to freeze, whereas scared dogs tend to fight.
I decided to wait one more day and this morning, Pats had no limp. When we went outside, he was walking very gingerly on the rocky ground so I'm more convinced it's a pad problem of some sort. We just went for a walk and he's OK on smooth surfaces and on cushy grass but if we go onto the rocky ground or gravel, he limps a bit.

i did stop the aspirin, though, since I'm afraid of it accumulating in his system, but it did seem to help. This morning, we played fetch inside and he was fine on the tile floor.
