I haven't heard of that brand. Have you tried the raw diet? I talked to my vet and tried a couple of different kinds, but I really didn't like even touching it myself! I know lots of people think it is the way to go, but my corgis act more like humans than wolves, so I deceided it wasn't for us. BTW my vet recommended feeding a probiotic with the raw diet.

Gypsy is my first pup, so I've never had the opportunity to try a raw diet before.  I work around raw meat all day, so that part won't really bother me.  I've just heard the benefits of a nicer coat, better stools (i live in an apartment, so this is a really nice added bonus), and just better general health.

Just remember, she'll have that raw meet on her snout and probably her paws.  So anything her snout touches would be sort of like if you handled raw meat and did not wash your hands and went around the house touching stuff.

 

That's the part I just can't get past.

not sure if you should feed raw to a pup that young. Also, may be a good idea to feed a raw diet you buy the meat, etc yourself just because a lot of companies are getting on the raw band wagon and so some have less than ideal sources and also have more fruit/veggies/and grains than necessary. I tried raw for a while but Franklin's stool never got better and about one month into it refused to eat for 4+ days so I slowly switched him back to a premium kibble and he's been doing great.

Raw meat doesn't bother me, it's just that the food I tried had to be taken from the freezer into the frig overnight.  The warnings kind of made me nervous.  I know to be careful with raw meat, but this said to treat like raw meat, but not for human comsumption.  I guess I was thinking raw would be as good as the food we would eat, I don't know but I didn't feel really good about it.  Maybe like Melissa said if you do it yourself, but I don't feel like I know for sure what they need and really a good premium food is so much easier!

Just so you know - even the premium kibble is not what we would eat. Not even close - its the leftovers that get thrown out. All the fruit and veggies (way more than in manufactured raw food) in kibble is useless anyways, with all nutritional value having been removed already for human consumption. If you can do raw, I saw go for it. I have never heard of this brand but checked out the website and it looks pretty good. If you can get it yourself from an ethical supplier it would be even better! Melissa, I am also curious why you would say not sure to feed raw to a pup that young? Feeding a raw food diet to a puppy can have fantastic benfefits

1)  Exposure to illness; their immune systems are not developed yet.   Most raw chicken has salmonella, for instance, and

 

2) Nutrients.  High-protein diets can cause overly-rapid growth.  Overly-rapid growth can cause all sorts of problems.  I believe one of the raw feeders here started her puppy on a lower-quality kibble because of growth issues, but I don't want to speak for anyone else.

I realize that I wouldn't eat the kibble; it's just that the raw I tried was kind of gross!  Many dogs do great on even "bad kibble" (I have friends that aren't into eating quality even for themselves, so really don't care where their dogs are concerned and it amazes me that there dogs do great). For me I decided to pick a holistic food that had been working fine for years and stick to it unless I had to change because it started causing a reaction or something. 

If I had a puppy I'm not sure what I would use, I guess I would see what the breeder recommended.  Both of the breeders that I got my dogs from used Fromm so that is what I have stayed with.

Yeah, I'm not sure I would feed raw to a dog that young, either. But, raw is definitely the way to go, IMO!  I feed Waffle raw.  I do it myself, though.  Premade raw is needlessly expensive, when you can buy 12-15 meals for 6 dollars at the right meat market.  At this age, I would begin feeding her scraps of raw meat so she gets used to the idea.  The bones I would save for when she's older-- 14-16 weeks, maybe, and only small bones.  I need to go to class, but if you're interested in making raw yourself, I'll give you more info and some resources.
