Gypsy turned 8 weeks old on Monday and i've had her since the 8th.  As soon as I got her, I immediately began to do the crate training.

There are some problems, though.  I wake up at 8, take her for a walk, feed her, play with her, take her out again, and then play with her some more until I go into work at 10.  She usually pees first thing in the morning.  When I take her second time, she pees and poops.  I live right next to where I work, so if it's slow (always is until noon), I will come up at 11:30 and take her out.  She sometimes has a surprise for me and most of the time it's poop.  I figured this might be normal because of her small bladder, but didn't know if there was something else I could do because I hate the idea of her just sitting down in her filth.

Her cage has a divider and it's setup so she pretty much only has room to lay down in.

Is there something else I should be doing?

Thank you all for the help!

Also, this is probably important and I forgot to mention.

I come home from work at 2:30 and repeat the morning routine until 4:30 when I go back in.  Then I'll come up at about 6 and I get off work at about 8:30.

It sounds like you're doing everything right, maybe you could try feeding her before you take her for the walk? I know with my guys a walk always seems to "get things moving" so to speak. I'm not sure if getting her so young would affect her potty habits maybe? Usually a puppy will not soil their crate if the area is small enough.

That was one of my concerns about getting her so soon, too.  I really haven't read anything on why it would be a problem, though.  I try and play with her as much as I can after she eats for things "to get moving", but i'll try walking her tomorrow to see if that helps.  It's just weird.  She'll do her business and then do it again in an hour and I don't give her water or food before I put her away.

Thank you for the help!

She will get more control as she gets older.  And, she will learn that sitting in a mess isn't very fun.  Keep up the schedule so she can predict when you will be back.  Once she's old enough to hold it she will put everything togheter.
She is pretty young, still. Have patience, don't get too worried yet. Just keep doing what you're doing. If she still has problems when she's older, then you can start worrying. Right now, you seem to be doing things right.
u are doing fine. as time goes on the more control she will not have full control for a couple of months. but u gotta remember, after pups wake up they gotta go, ten mins after they drink/eat they have to go potty and ten mins after they play they gotta go again. as she gets older that time in between will increase. but i am happy to hear you are crating her during the day as they will help her learn to hold it. you are doing a great job:)

Thank you everyone for the replies!

I suppose I posted this more or less just to ease my mind about it, but I will keep it up with the way i'm currently doing things.  I also don't like the idea of leaving her in a mess.

when my guy was little, I had a sleeping pad at the back of the crate & a potty pad in the front half. that way if he woke up in the night he had a place to go. He only messed on it once or twice and quit wetting on it by about 14 wks or so?
