after waitng for what seems like years! I am t - 6 days from bringing home my new corgi pup.

So the question du jour to you guys is: what did you do to prep for the puppy the week before bringing him/her home? ... What was the day like? ... What was your pup's schedule like once stepping his/her paw into your home?

I'm getting my breeder to write up my puppy's daily schedule and feeding schedule, so I can make the transition as easy as possible. Any funny stories, mistakes to learn from, and helpful advice are welcome!!

(if this topic has already been discussed, please link the thread, I would love to read all the stories!)

Congrats!! You muct be so excited! I remember all the planning and preparing the days before Emmy came home. I had to travel out of town to get her, and when I got home my parents had a huge "Welcome Home Emmy" sign in my front window! I tried so hard to do everything just right as I had read it... not to many people over, keep it low key, how to intrudude the cat to her, take her outside to potty, bla, bla, bla. I was so worried about all of the "rules" that I forgot to feed her!! We had a 5 hour car ride, so she really should have eaten when we got home.. oops! Oh well - I never made that mistake again! LOL. No matter how much pre-planning you do you will and up having to just go with the flo and wing it on some level anyway. Just enjoy the day and take TONS of pics... they change SO fast!! Have fun! :-)

Introducing a corgi to a new home
here is a link to the blog I did in my first two weeks of getting Oliver. It was rather exciting, but exhausting...and I ended the blog after 2 weeks because I went back to work (I was a school teacher at the time). It is really humorous, because I used it mainly to track his potty schedule.

You'll have to read it backwards, of course.
As my husband and I had 2 days of planning once we decided to get a dog, the morning we went to pick Oliver up, I hit up Petsmart and got a crate, some toys, bowls, leash, collar, food, a doggie door, treats, combs/brushes, toothbrush/toothpaste, poop bags, nail clippers/file. I think that's everything that I have in our possession. Maybe some cute clothes if you see any.
make sure, too, that you puppy proof the area your pup will be in. get cords off the ground move plants out move anything you don't want chewed on out. also get some sleep. we have no sleep that first week with her because we wanted her to get used to her crate so we took her outside every 4 hours for the fist few days. then overnight it went to 6 and now we are at about 8.
My plan would be to have his crate in place, toys, leash, collar and food. I would plan to be home for a few days and begin a routine. I would make sure I have found a veterinarian that will be caring for my dog. I would start looking at training classes in my area. I would have some toys of different types, ropes, squeaky, soft, etc. I would start purchasing shampoo, grooming supplies and have your camera charged and ready to go!
thanks everyone for your comments and advice! i'm so excited, i am now only 2 days away! ahhhhhhh!
Hi!
I recommend to puppy proof all the area including garden! We have many many plants in our garden and I found out which of them are poisonous for dogs. Now I know, that chewing them is a big NO for the pup and also I can tell their names to the vet if necessary.
Have a nice time with your pup!
I have one thing to add...the first day is the honeymoon period...enjoy all that snuggling and sweetness while you can!!! :) Cause from now on, its getting up at 6 am everyday, nip, nip, nip and LOTS of chewing!! All fun stuff, but just enjoy the first day when things are calmer! :)
