Ok...I am confused...you want her to wait and go potty after her walk??? She's a baby...she needs to get out and go potty. Sorry if I'm not getting" what you mean.

I know, I am confused too, It was my understanding (and previous experience) that pups will go right after they eat. But Munchkin will not. It could be hours.....I was thinking that this might not be healthy. So when I noticed she had to go 1st thing in the AM, I followed her lead. I guess I am asking if this is normal. Vet said it was not unheard of, nothing to worry about --not going right after she eats. I just thought it was different, concerned that there was something wrong, or just being paranoid!! She can, on average hold it for 5-6 hours during the day. A little less if very active. I just want to make sure. I guess I am second guessing myself....She's my 1st corgi and all I've read tells me they are not like other breeds...But I guess more like people that we think. Most of us go potty b/4 we eat in the AM....don't we? LOL Sorry for the confusion.

It is true that younger pups will go right after they eat and then will start taking more time. I still have a 5 month old here and he goes out as often as my adults...once in awhile more but he can hold it well. He does go potty and get exercise 1st and then eat. If I have time he goes out again but all pups are different just like people are so if this works for Munchkin then I would leave her do it this way. Good luck!

Noodles and I get up at 5 and go jogging where he does his business. Then we come home and he eats. He is 5.5, but he doesn't normally go back out until we get home from work. We've been on this same routine for years and it seems to work for us.

thats interesting. teddy goes out as soon as i let him out of the kennel and when hes finished i let him to eat and then i have to take him back out in 20mins. what you could try is getting up a half hour early and if shes in a kennal just give her food in there and wait until 5 and then go on your walk and see what happens. i know if i feed teddy something and go for a walk he has to go potty right away since walking gets the bowels moving. also i know this may sound kinda nasty but if u come across where she has pooped before have her smell the spot because that might encourage it. also is she getting enough water? in order to have a bowel movement there has to be enough water in the intestines for it to come out(i know this is gross) so if me and my husband were going on a trip and i REALLY needed him to poop before we go i usually would put half a cup of water in with his kibble but if yours doesnt like that, get a can of wet food and feed that to her

Thank you all... @ Alison-I am so looking forward to when I can say what you can. I guess I can wait 5 yrs. LOL !!! @ Rebecca- I am a relatively smart person who is having a really dumb moment......Never dawned on me that her dry kibble could not be interesting and that maybe adding some water would make it more appetizing!!!! Just thought water in her bowl was enough. I guess it's all in the presentation!!! So I am going to try the double walk in the AM and a little "gravy" for the kibble. Thanks again to all for your help ......I love this site!!!!

Well, Imagine this one.
Most people have to go to the bathroom when they get up, dogs aren't much different really. Now, as for the holding it part given her age it prob. won't happen. Most dogs don't fully develop bladder control until about 6 months, any sooner and I'd be surprised.
As for the remainder my day goes as follows ( and keep in mind I work night shift).
I get in, walk the dogs at 8:30 to 9 a.m.
They get their food and water in the cage while I shower. Then they are given the option to sleep with me or not.
If not then my brother will take them out at around 12 a.m. to 1 p.m., treats are given at this point.
When I get up at around 4:30 to 5 any dog(s) that may have slept with me go out, then ready for the day..usually this is their long walk time. And occasional treats for walking nice and ignoring distractions.
6 p.m. is feeding and following 30 min later is walking time.
7 p.m is wind down time and some play time.
10 - 11 p.m. is last walk and typically bed time, unless its my day off then they are welcome to hang out with Dad until the early morning time, That's usually a walk at 4 a.m. as a quick potty break and my food run usually.
The process starts all over again.
Just as a fun side note, we don't always provide treats for the dogs, bones and such yes, but I try and keep treats a high value item, this allows it to be used for training.

That is interesting what different corgs do. The boys are all in the room with us so DH takes a shower and the corgs move to the side of the bed. Then he will feed them then they go outside.

Let me get this straight... We're talking about poo, right? My almost 6 month old corgi Ein poos the second I get her outside in the morning, and our schedule varies. Sometimes that's at 8am, but usually it's between 8:30am and 9:30am. It's always the same though, I set her down outside and immediately see the hump back. She also goes again after breakfast which is just a few minutes later. She poos a lot in the morning. I never thought to ask if that was considered normal, cause I've had her since she was 6.5 weeks old and this is normal for her. I think that's just normal for Munchkin. You gotta go when you gotta go. She can't really help that. When is her last meal in the evening? Does she go poo after that meal? Does she have enough time to go poo after that meal before being put to bed? You might consider feeding her earlier in the evening if she doesn't go after dinner. Just a thought. I don't think there is anything wrong her schedule now though, unless she's having accidents in the house before you get home to let her out.

Munchkin's last meal is btween 5-6 pm. This is the same feeding schedule the breeder had her on. And sometimes she doesn't poo until the next AM. I just found it strange since everything I read/heard said pups will/should eliminate right after eating. But she will poo in the middle of the day, so I guess all is well, she's just got a strange constitution!!! Like you said ''you gotta go when you gotta go". Thanks

Sophie is now 2-1/2 years old. My day begins at 4:10 a.m. with coffee and wakeup time for me (watching news or on FB). I turn off my computer and the chime gets Sophie stirring. 5:00 a.m. we go downstairs and I take her outside to poddy. (I do not have a fenced yard, live in a townhouse, so i take her out on a leash. I wait for her to do her business then we go in and I fix her breakfast. She eats, I make my lunch. We go upstairs where I shower and dress and we head out the door at 5:45 a.m. to catch the 6:00 a.m. ferry. Around 9:30 a.m. at work we go out for our first walk and poddy break. and the day goes on like that.
On our days off I sleep in until 6:00 usually and everything gets started a little later. I still take her out as soon as she gets up, then I feed her. Then we laze around a bit, then I take her for a walk.

Thanks...Thought Munchkin was the only pup who did not poo right after meals. Guess it's not so unusual.
