Hi Karen,  we also cook our dogs food and I add krill oil, kelp, diatomaceous earth for parasites, and this supplement sold by Wysong.  Can you tell me the name of the powder mix you use and where you get it ?  Thank you !

Thank you for this supplement info. I will take a look.

I'm so happy to read about someone else using DE for parasites.   I mentioned it once a few years back and was told it's made of glass and would slice my dogs' intestines :).    This was after I said I'd tried it on myself first.    Sigh.  It's great for fleas as well.   I'd much rather a natural solution than dosing with insecticides and neurotoxins.

I think a lot of people don't realize there's food grade of diamotaceous earth so they think we're feeding our dogs the stuff they use for pool filters !  HA ! I   It thought the only way dogs would benefit from it for fleas was if you rubbed it into their fur, and sprinkled it on the rugs and in the yard, but after we started giving it internally ours didn't seem to have fleas anymore.  My main goal was to get rid of internal parasites.  With so many dogs getting cancer I just can't bring myself to inflict our dogs with the toxins in spot on flea treatments.  :)

We switched a couple of months ago from Chicken Soup for Dog Lover's Soul to Taste of the Wild, Salmon. It's made a huge difference! Without going into details, let's just say I haven't had to hose down Lucy's butt weekly. Plus their coats are shinier and we don't need to add Omega 3 supplements. So we're really happy. Poo poo poo. Pun intended–– but I'm also very superstitious.

Hi all, the powder mix we use is Healthy Dogma Petmix With Nuts and Cherries. The website is k9criticalcare.com. Our girls will be 4 on May 2nd, but they act like the are still 1 (minus the chewing holes in my carpet, etc...thank goodness, especially now that it's been replaced). They absolutely love it. You can also find online demos on how they recommend making the food...how long to cook the meat to maintain the nutrients, and when to add the powder (typically after meat has cooled so that the nutrients of the freeze dried fruits, veggies and other ingredients are also maintained). It only takes about 20 minutes to prepare a 3 lb batch which lasts our 2 girls about 5 days, 2 meals a day. You can make smaller batches, but we buy our organic ground round at Costco which comes in 3 lb packaging, so it's just easier to prep 1 larger batch a couple of times a week.

There are 2 supplements (if you're interested) that I get from the same site is a product called Itchin' For Nirvanna (for skin allergies, which our girls sometimes get when in grass or pollen levels are high, but for the most part, they don't have skin issues) and K9 Mobility (To keep their hips and joints healthy). You can also find online demos on how they recommend making the food...how long to cook the meat to maintain the nutrients, and when to add the powder (typically after meat has cooled so that the nutrients of the freeze dried fruits, veggies and other ingredients are maintained).

THANK YOU !   We recently started shopping at Costco and I hadn't noticed their organic meat.  Organic meaning it's grass fed and the cows aren't given any steroids or antibiotics ? Or are they fed grain but they verify that it doesn't contain any GMO's.

That's a good question. I always think of Organic as pure in every manner, meaning grass fed, no steroids, antibiotics or GMO's. I wouldn't imagine that the FDA would allow GMO's in Organic food; but to be honest, I haven't done that much research on GMO's. I'll have check the label closer.

I use that GMO website; thank you for sharing it.  I've just learned that a lot of places say their products are organic, but it's not always clear what they mean by that.  My basic question was whether that meat from Costo came from cows that were fed grains that were not genetically modified, or if they were grass fed.  Either one would make them organic.  :)  I'm excited to check out that meat the next time we go.  Thanks again !

I don't think Costco's meat is grass-fed unless it's specifically labeled that way. "Organic" isn't the same as "grass-fed." The beef is great but it doesn't taste at all like Whole Foods' grass-fed beef. And the pork is too cheap to be either organic or grass-fed.

Thank you Vicky.

Thanks Vicky. I just remembered I had another 3 lbs in our garage fridge. I just looked and the packaging only states that it's organic. It doesn't state what the cows are fed.
