I guess the title might sum up my questions a bit. :) I recently joined MyCorgi and I have an obligatory question (or two) for you all!

My 8-week old Corgi, Gordon, has developed an interesting peeing situation on the carpet. I understand that he cannot hold his bladder for much more than 2 or 3 hours, no problem. However, when we play with him on the carpet (once a day as a result of his new behavior), he urinates a tiny bit on the floor. Even if we've taken him outside and he relieved himself thoroughly, three minutes later he will come in and "go" a tiny amount on the floor. I have a couple different theories, but I'm not sure if any of them have any merit. I thought about marking, but surely at 8 weeks old he's too young? I looked into a UTI perhaps, but he's not exhibiting any other symptoms (I will bring it up at the next vet visit, though). Finally, my brother-in-law suggested he might just get excited and it "falls out." It's not always during exciting play, though. Even during quiet times it happens. I have no clue!

Also, we have a small issue with biting. The majority of the time, it seems like play-biting or when he would like to initiate play. Other times, he's obsessed with our feet when we're walking (inside or out on a walk). We exclaim "ouch!" and turn away from him, but it does not seem to work all the time. Any suggestions that have worked for you?

I know that he's still very young, but I am interested in setting a good example right away. Thanks so much, I have really enjoyed reading the forums so far! :)

The peeing could be unintentional but I would call your vet to rule out a health issue. Be sure to clean the area, Urineoff works great, really well.
For the biting, our Sparty was nicknamed Jaws as a puppy. We gave a very dramatic, high pitched yelp (think scream) when he started and if he did it again he was confined in a gated area for a few minutes. It took some patience but he stopped. Good luck with your puppy!
First of all if he is 8 weeks it will take some time to get these issues worked out...with the bitng you are definately doing the correct thing...my question is what tone of voice do you use...it can't be a happy, playful voice but more of a "ouch" that really hurt me voice and then there is intermittent reinforcement , if 3 times you respond with ouch but the 4th time you let it go he will learn that well maybe I can get by with this, this should be very strict when trying to nip at your feet...it's a herding thing. Playtime maybe you can have some toys he can chew on as his teeth may be bothering him...I always use a kong toy that is about 3" long and round (log shaped....sorry don't know the name) and has indents in it to put yummy peanut butter in...I also still use this as a treat if my dog is kenneled for a chewy...it's safe and they love to get the peanut butter....this will teach him to play(chew) on things he can not people. Also my thought would be that if he's nipping at your feet etc.and you've just said "ouch" you wait 5 mn or so before you "play" with him cuz if you start to play immediatly after the ouch this will confuse him. Maybe you need to initiate the play or if he does not nip then get a toy and play???? When I had pups(don't remember how old but too young to say ouch and would walk in their room at night I felt like I had 8 pihrannas(sp) biting at me...

Again at 8 week he and you are still trying to figure this out...it will take awhile but sounds like you're on the right track!
Thank you all for responding! I wanted to take some time before replying to see how it all plays out... so far so good! Herding my feet is definitely minimized, strong biting is much less frequent (still soft mouthing, so that's the next to work on), and peeing in the house is completely gone if I take him outside every 15 minutes while awake. I'm pretty amazed, he's been holding it through the night for the past few nights... Maybe our pre-sleeping playtime is really exhausting him!

When we cannot give him 100% of our attention (for some reason, laundry, dishes, and all that junk still piles up), he's really amused with his peanut butter-stuffed Kong! :) Thank you all again!
