Corgi in Sacramento needs rescue commitment or will be euthanized!

UPDATE: She is safe!!! There are two people interested, one who will be pulling her no matter what. Yay!

Hey guys,

My friend works for Sacramento City Animal Control and has told me about a corgi that came into the rescue on April 6th. They did her behavior assessment today and she failed due to food/toy aggression. If ANYBODY on here works with rescue or is part of a rescue please pass on her information. She needs a rescue commitment ASAP or will be euthanized. Please only contact the shelter if you can get her out of there, they are short staffed and can't have 100 people calling to give her a second chance or more time. If somebody can arrange to get her released I can provide transport on a Sunday or Tuesday to anywhere within about a 3 hour radius of Sacramento. I can not foster her due to possible aggression as I have 3 cats and Franklin.

Resource guarding is usually either fixable or manageable. Hope someone gives her a chance. Someone with experience...

Unfortunately, resource guarding is one of the biggest reasons dogs in shelters become "unadoptable" even though it's very fixable with, like, a week or two of work and confined feeding. :[

Trouble is, it sure looks scary, and the ways many people deal with it cause escalation. It's usually only a problem when the dog defines everything, including the patch of ground it's lying on, as a "resource."

The other problem is, when I was a kid we were always told not to go near a dog when it had a bone or toy or food. And now people seem to expect they should just be able to take anything away from a dog at any time, and so many people actually CREATE resource guarding where it would not have really existed to begin with.

I wish I were closer....

I agree. I think she is probably an excellent dog and in all honesty what percentage of corgis probably exhibit a bit of resource guarding in there own home? Let alone in a scary environment with strangers poking at you. I sure hope somebody can pull her. I am friends with somebody there so if worse comes to worse he said I can probably pull her and just sign a waiver or foster her to keep her from being euthanized. She's only 1 1/2 and as you both have said, its so easily fixed!

Here's a some links to rescues who may be able to help. I'll inquire about the Oregon Humane Society's second chance program, as I know they bring up dogs from down there sometimes.

I so hope someone can help her. It's a fixable problem with patience.

She is safe!!! Yay!!! There will be somebody going to meet her on Friday and there is a second person who has committed to pulling her if the first does not come through! I am so happy!
