Did your corgi's fur change color as they grew older? How much?

Finley is slowly starting to show a little orange on the edges of her black, and I'm wondering if I should expect it all to go tan (she's about 10 weeks now). Is this typical? Complete color transformations, that is? She's kind of oddly colored, as far as I can tell (being brand new to the corgi world), having one light blue eye, pink/black gums and nose, black freckles on her tummy and snout, and half a white head. I'm just curious about what her colors are going to do! :)

Oh, how cute! I believe the half-white face makes him a mismark (?), but I'm not an expert on that.) It's no problem unless you were planning on showing him in the conformation ring, where it's a color fault and not allowed.

I had heard that some red-headed tris start with black heads. We got our red-headed tri girl as an adult. She currently has no black higher than the bottom of her neck. However we were sent puppy pictures and she had a black cap that came up over the back of her head almost to her eyes, just like your picture of Finley.

And our male, Jack, had a lot of sabling when he was a pup and only has some now. A lot of the red-and-whites have sabling as pups that they lose, and most of them have a lot of grey hairs when they are tiny. So yes, I'd say color changes are pretty normal. :-) And it's not always predictable either; the breeder where we got Jack seemed surprised by how much sabling he still has.
Dax did a complete color transformation. The only thing he kept was the white strip on his face/neck. :) As a puppy, he started out mostly black on his back, but the lady I got him from told me he would be red and white. Sure enough, as he got older and lost his puppy coat, he changed from black to completely red. Even after that, he started to get a little black around his neck. He's a year and a half old now, and he's mostly red and white, with black sabling around his shoulders, and a mostly black nub. Sometimes I'll find a strand of his fur on me and it's four colors -- white at the bottom, then tan, then red, then black. He's got a lot of color going on in his fur. :) If yours is only 10 weeks old, she'll definitely be going through some color changes. She's still got her puppy coat (which, on Dax, didn't shed AT ALL, so get ready for it, because it's coming..), so she'll probably go through some pretty dramatic changes.
Taz is a reg sable and his puppy pics show him having the darker sable fur. Now at almost a year old he looks just like his red & white half sister. Close up you can see a few dark hairs but he looks nothing like other sables I have seen.
I forget where....but i was once told that a tri's coloring can be determined by the ears. Correct me if I'm wrong because it is very possible but I was told that if a tri's ears are trimmed with black on the inside then they will be a black headed tri. If it's all red on the inside of the ear then it will be a red headed tri. Anybody else hear this?
This is true but takes awhile for that distinction to happen. I have a litter right now that I was not certain who was a BHT or RHT til they were between 3-4 wks of age.
That is verrry interesting. Her ears were faintly rimmed on the inside in red with the backs mostly black when I first got her, and now the backs have sable-y fur, that is half black and half orange. I'm assuming they're going red. Her "pirate patch" looks to be heading the same way.
A little bit. Everything got a little darker. Except for the white of course. :)
I love the white-- I'll have to wash her more often, I suppose, but it's soooo soft! Maybe that will change, too, but at the moment it is ridiculously fluffy and longer than the rest! It's my favorite patch to rub :)
I dunno about Charlie except his fur filled in more since we got him and it looks healthier lol

For Roxi her red was a lot darker and she actually had a dark/black fur patch almost her back and as her fairy saddle.

As she gets older she lost the darkness of her fur and actually doesn't grow any black fur anywhere anymore. Its really light and I keep thinking its her being dirty but really its just a soft soft red. Her white spots stayed the same and you can still see the cow markings on her skin if you rub her belly.
I looove those spots!! I hope Finn keeps hers, too!
Domino got some red on her head and ears at she got bigger. I think it's natural; it gives them character.
Your puppy is a mismark...white areas past certain pts of the body and blue eyes are major fault as well. The pigmentation on the nose and gums is a fault. Don't let my straight forward answer discredit your pup. They all deserve love and are the making from man. Not their fault! (no pun intended) LOL Corgis do change colors quite drastically as pups to adult. Red tris look like black tris as pups shedding the black as they mature. Red pups looking sable but turn more red w/maturity. Pink noses filling in w/black as they grow. Blue eyes at a very young age going dark brown as adults. Sables getting more extreme black lines in the coat as they mature or go the other way and lighten a bit to be a slight sable. At 10 weeks you should have a basic color idea with just more change in the direction of the color pattern. Even the white markings on young pups will decrease in size as they mature.
