I had read several posts from people here on what to feed my Mia.  I finally did some research and decided on Canidae All Life Stages.  In addition to Mia, I also watch her brother Herky during the day, and she also has 2 sheltie mix furbrothers.  They wanted her puppy food, she and Herky wanted their senior food......so the Canidae sounded great!

NOW for the problem!!!  I signed on this morning and first thing I see on the MSN homepage: Is pricey pet food worth the cost?  So I read the article, look at the ingredients, and about cried.  The ingredients are exactly what the article said NOT to feed!  Honestly, I feel like I couldn't have made a worse choice!  Shipment is to be arriving today, should I go ahead???? Send it back???? What would you all do?

I'm not sure I got the same thing out of the article you did. It says to choose whole grains, and rice is a whole grain. Canidae also has a named meat meal as its first ingrediet. Meat meal is better than meat because it's the dried weight of the cleaned meat and organs; the meat alone (without the meal) is the wet weight, but then they dry it before making kibble out of it anyway. So what that means is that a named meat meal gives you a higher proportion of ingredients as meat than the same amount of just plain meat does.

I think most people consider Canidae a good food. Personally I feed Iam's lamb and rice, and feed Iam's to the cat, but when it comes to canned food for the cat I think the Iam's is AWFUL (Meat broth as the first ingredient? Er, what kind of "meat".....) so her canned is usually Blue Buffalo. In other words, don't be married to a brand, but go by the label and the safety record of the company.
I fed Canidae all life stages for and all my dogs did great on it. I have switched to Taste of the Wild but Canidae IS a GOOD food and I loved it because I also could feed multiple age dogs! The only reason I switched was because it was made in a factory that made cheaper brands and there was a question as to what they used in the cheaper brands and that it didn't get in the Canidae. Taste of the Wild is made by the same company but in a different factory. I wouldn't worry...the food is very good!
The Canidae looks fine to me too. The major things you want to avoid are corn and by-products and I don't see any of that in the ingredients. Meat "meal" is totally fine as a first ingredient, it just means the water weight has been removed. So technically you're getting more actual meat than if they had listed just "chicken".
thank you for the info. boy, some of that information will make your hair stand on end! I should be receiving shipment today of the Canidae and will start the "kids" on it.
