How do you clean pet stains?
How do you treat pet stains? Come on, I know you all have them! :)
I've tried the Nature's Miracle but it still leaves behind color. Yuck!
Is there anything I can use from my own pantry to make a natural, safe, but effective cleaner?

Ha ha, that's how our carpet looks now except it is all in one room. I cleaned a couple of the dark spots only to find that after cleaning those spots, they were the only clean spots in the room as the rest of the carpet had apparently taken on a grey tinge over the past couple years. God forbid we move any furniture or we'll have a real problem. :)

We used Nature's Miracle and another brand from Petsmart. I didn't notice if they were picking up all the color at the time but now looking at the carpet it's a mess. This could be from dog and people walking on wet spot that has been just cleaned and tracking dirt onto it, dribbles that we didn't even know happened that sat and collected dirt, or the pet stain removers didn't work on removing the stain as much as the odor. I have a can of Spot Shot I've been using to get rid of those old stains and it works extremely well and fast. I recently read on their site that it is effective on pet stains as it also removed the odor. I wish I knew that when Finn was little; I would have just used it rather than those specialty cleaners.

White vinegar is great for neutralizing pee, and far cheaper than Nature's Miracle. And I like to use the Bissell carpet cleaner that's meant for the rug shampooer, just straight on the rug. I clean up the poo, then splash the carpet cleaner on, then follow with a very wet paper towel. I know it's a lot of shampoo, but it seems to take the stain up. Also, Capture is great stuff.

I use the Oxi-clean rug cleaner; it did a fabulous job when poor Jack had an intestinal upset while I was at work. :-(
It would not do the trick for neutralizing the odor to the dog's nose (though it worked for my own; nothing like walking in the door and having the whole house reek of dog poop--- and then realize the poor dog's been putting up with it for perhaps hours). But you could use a good carpet cleaner, then just try the Nature's Miracle to get rid of the smell that the dog would pick up. In my case I wasn't worried about that because it wasn't a housebreaking issue, but a "Dog ate something he should not have" issue.
And of course 3/4 or more of the entire downstairs is either tile, vinyl, or hardwood---- AND he went on the only carpeted area when he just couldn't hold it any more. Poor guy; I think he was pacing frantically based on the fact that it was everywhere, but I digress. The Oxy worked great.

Vinegar gets my vote for spots and odor neutralizer. I use peroxide for most of my cleaning and laundry! Baking soda works well for much cleaning also.

We use baking soda for the stainless steel sinks, and I use a vinegar/water mix for mirrors and bathroom sinks/tubs, as well as counters. I do break down and use a stronger product to clean up after raw meat.
I try to use natural where I can, but I must admit that for dog poop on the rug I get out the strong stuff. :)
If you have no carpet cleaner, a spray of plain Windex (the blue kind) can help with fresh stains. It also gets out pine sap. I never buy it anymore (using vinegar works just as well on windows and mirrors) but I still have some lying around.

Vinegar for stainless steel bowls gets all the "gunk" out too. Just add 1/2 water and 1/2 vinegar and let sit for an hour, I usually just add a cup total and swish around. Sorry if this is a little off the subject but it works so well to clean any stainless steel as I use it on my frying pans too!
