so after everything i have read it seems corgis just love their food, my lily is about 5 months old now and i believe she is getting in her "adult" teeth since we have found 3 baby teethes around the house so far, but lily is giving me trouble eating, she sometimes goes for the whole day on one meal, i tried mixing a bit of milk with her food but she stopped eating after 2 days then i tried chicken stock and she seemed to like it until she returned to the habit of eating once a day (my vet recommended 2-3 feedings a day), today however, we put the food in a secluded area and she managed to finish all of it, both servings, i am worried about her since i do not want her to be underfed at a crucial developmental stage in her life. any thoughts ?

Hi Bassam, how much does Lily weight? What is she eating right now? What other treats / snacks is she getting throughout the day?
hi sam, she weighs 12 and 3/4 punds at 5 months of age, we have had ehr on blue buffalo puppy food, and she gets puppy milk bones, liver treats and once a day a small piece of blue buffalo jerkey.

Hi Bassam, that makes a lot of sense, she is holding out on the milk bones, liver treats and jerky. BB is smelly and pups in general have no problem chowing down smelly food.

Instead of rewarding her with treats, reward her with one or 2 of her BB, only treat once a day and during training. Space out your treats, do not treat every single time she performs a task. When she begs her food, only feed her a kibble or two from your hand. Teach her to eat her food and have no expectation of treats.

Exercise, discipline, then affection. In that order. Good luck!

HI! I will assume  that she is teething and what I do for mine is to add warm water/broth about 5 minutes before mealtime and let it soak/soften. I am guessing this will help and that she is hungry but it hurts her mouth. Some of my dogs prefer to eat in their crates as they eat slower and can take their time. It's ok to let her eat in a place she feels safer in:) I feed my adults 3 times a day also.
I agree with Jane (okay that's weird to type, ha!). I still soften my dog's food because Henry is weird about kibble and it seems to make him more interested in eating it. If Lily is a healthy happy puppy otherwise I wouldn't worry too much about a skipped meal here or there, a healthy dog will not starve itself next to a full bowl of food. :)
if having her food in a secluded place worked then continue with that. The WORST thing you can do is continue adding goodies to her food. You are creating a picky eater and pretty soon she won't eat ANYTHING  rfor you. If she is your only dog you can just leave her food down if you are comfortable doing that, or you can put her food down, if she doesnt eat in 15 min., pick it up and repeat in  a few hours. Is it possible your are overfeeding her? She won't eat if she's not hungry and if this just started it may be a teething issue and you can try just putting some warm water in her food to soften it up. But ABSOLUTELY STOP mixing other food in it. If you continue doing that at this age you will have a VERY hard time getting her to eat when she is older as she will always be waiting for something better.
She won't starve herself!! A little warm water is fine to soften the kibble since she's teething but nothing else. She'll eat when she's hungry. If she's playing and drinking normally, she's not sick and will eat when she's ready. Don't get in the habit of the food struggle with her. It's like catering to a fussy child. Put the food there and expect her to eat what is put down. Same thing for a child. Parent and owners make fussy eaters!!

If she's teething, it might help to give her a wet rolled up dishcloth that's been frozen in the freezer to chew on.  It helped mine out when they were pups.  Don't have any advice on the food stuff, though...All mine have been chowhounds (and chowpups).

Mine went through a stage of "intermittent fasting"...

Like the others say, if everything else appears to be corgi-normal then don't fret too much. If she's only eating once a day some days, no problem.

Instead of milk or broth, other alternatives to soften kibble with are plain yoghurt or kefir, bacon grease (warmed & liquidy), other meat drippings... good for a variety

just an FYI and/or warning, you should NEVER give your dog bacon grease. It is high in sodium and saturated fats. By giving your dog something like bacon grease you are risking giving your dog pancreatitis which can be life threatening, the problem is each dog is different so it is hard to say how much is too much for an individual dog until that dog is seriously ill and hospitalized. It isn't worth the risk since there are so many other healthier alternatives.
don't worry - it's not like I do this on a regular basis & when I do it's like a tablespoon, not several cups of the stuff. AND, I cook a low-sodium/no sugar bacon. (Turns out my dog rarely gets it because I use it all for myself ;-) A lot of commercial dog foods also have salt in them. They like to disguise it with its chemical name "sodium chloride". Saturated fat ain't so bad - PUFAs are the real enemy. That's why I quit using TOTW - it has canola oil in it... but that's just me & my dog & how we roll
My puppy zeus is almost 5 months old and he does the same thing now in order to get him to eat like a true corgi lol I add a fork full of a good wet puppy food to his kibble and he gobbles up 2 cups a day and bonus it's good for him :) hope it helps
