New to Corgis how to help him feel at home.
Hey guys im a new corgi owner, my fiance and I just adopted a two year old corgi. He may be mixed, im not too sure. My question is that since he has been at our home he is a little shy and will come cuddle but then goes straight to the bathroom and prefers to stay there. Is there anything we can do to make him feel more comfortable or is this shyness a part of their breed?

Congratulations on your new addition! How long have you had him? Generally it takes 2-4 weeks for a dog to really get used to a new environment, and that includes his new home! He may be unsure about you, still. Was he a rescue or pound adoption! If so, he may have had a history of untrustworthy humans. I would suggest trying to encourage him to be open to you, but let him do it on his terms and at his own pace. Give lots of praise (and sometimes yummy treats!) when he comes to you and be sure to take him for daily walks. He'll soon learn to trust you and you'll have yourself a life-long friend!

Congratulations and thank you for rescuing him!! All older dogs just need time to come around, and realize that they are finally home. Try not to overwhelm him with sudden stops and starts, loud noises, stuff like that. Take cues from him when he wants attention, and don't push it on him. It's ok to go look for him to pet him, but if he acts scared or cowers, just take it easy. He'll come around. And when he does, it's great to see their personality come out little by little! Just a warning too, it's my experience that about two weeks after coming home, they get into some big trouble--I think it's their way of testing the water to see if they really are staying or not. Whether its chewing up something, regressing in potty training, or snapping out. Just be patient, and you guys can work through anything!

do you know away that we could figure out his age? the lady who we rescued him from said he was about two, but hes a pretty big muscular dog.

Your veterinarian should be able to give you a rough idea of his age. :)

Shyness is not typical of the breed but there are always exceptions. He's had a lot of changes recently which may seem really scary for him, I would just give him some more time to adjust. Think weeks not days. In the mean time I would just try to keep things quiet and low key around your home and don't ask too much of him.

Congrats...he is very handsome and "thank-you" for adopting! It will take a bare minimum of 30+ days and then depending on his situation. My corgis like the bathroom when they come to work with me and even at home especially by the toilet but maybe this is where he stayed? He will slowly adjust:)

He is so adorable! Are his back legs bowed or is it just how he is standing in that last picture? If his back legs are bowed outwards then I'd say he looks like a purebred corgi to me. But then again, I'm no expert. ;)
