Ok. So. Some dog owners upset me. Like my mom's room mate. He had to put his dog down a few months ago because the dog was old and couldn't move anymore or anything. So... then he gets another dog. A Lab puppy. About 10 months(?) old. The dog was potty trained and was a great dog... Except two things. He barked at anything he heard and he lunged at the front gate when people came. Water bottles and telling him no did not work. We tried a bark collar that my mom bought a long time ago, but it wasn't strong enough to shock him (it was made for smaller dogs). He wouldn't invest the time or money into training him to not do these things. Like, buy a better bark collar with a remote to deter him from lunging and barking. He did not go out in the front near the gate to get him to stop barking or anything. Just yelled at him from the front door. So... He decides to give the dog away and get a different dog. This dog is (they said) like 1 year and a few months. I think it is more like 8 months old. HELLOOOOOOOO. If you aren't willing to train a dog and work with it to correct things or teach it good manners, then, In MY opinion, YOU SHOULD NOT OWN A DOG. I hate that people think dogs are property and not a family member who needs to be taught and cared for and corrected and they cost money. You can't get a perfect dog that will do everything you want it to do and not ever do anything you don't want it to do. Never happen. You will always have to work with the dog. I don't understand why people think you can just trade dogs because one is(n't) doing something you want (don't want) it to do. It makes me so mad.

Or people who just let their dogs bark and bark and bark. They don't even see if the dog is barking at something or not. It just constantly barks. Hello... You need to correct the dog. If you have to spend money on a bark collar... so be it. It is your responsibility as a dog owner to make sure it doesn't bark all the time.

Or people who leave their dog outside and never do anything with it except maybe give it food and water.

A dog is like a kid. You have to take care of it and spend time with it, teach it and provide for it. Or, it will not be a well behaved dog. If you don't do these things- of course you will have problems with your dog. You may get a dog that is trained and well behaved, but, if you don't continue these things, the dog will not continue to be well behaved.

Here, here, except for the bark collars. Not a fan of shocking an excited dog.
I feel for you a lot. Our neighbors for the last 6 years (thank goodness we finally moved!!!!) were extremely rude. They had a dog chained in the back yard when we moved in. Never unchained it or played with it. Then they got another dog, tied that one to a tree. Then the first one disappeared. The new one was a puppy. When it grew up, they didn't get it fixed, so it had puppies. They put up a snow fence to keep puppies in. Didn't work, so puppies were in my yard and garage, all the time, tearing up my things and pooping everywhere. Then when puppies got older, they got mean, cause nobody worked with them. The puppies started attacking our dog. They also barked ALL the time. That's when I started calling the cops. Cops made the people build a dog kennel (they only had one dog house for mom and 6 puppies). So then they just barked ALL the time. Still called the cops. Cops fined them repeatedly. They finally got rid of all but one pup and mom, who still barked all the time. Then I had a baby. I started going out everytime the dogs would bark and spraying them with the garden hose, just so my baby could sleep. After a couple weeks, all I had to do was walk outside and they would stop barking. This went on and on for years. I don't know how many times the cops fined them, but I do know the cops were really mad that the people wouldn't comply with taking care of their dogs. Keep in mind this whole time that these people have 4 kids and NOBODY ever took the dogs out of the pen or walked them or played with them or anything. Then right before we moved, they got ANOTHER dog. I totally think that people like this should be banned from owning animals. Like a "3 strikes your out" for animal neglect.
My question for people like this.. is WHY are you getting a dog? WHY are you spending money on these animals to sit outside and do nothing? It just boggles my mind!
Argh when I finally get around to it I will be ranting about almost this exact same thing in my blog. What I really CAN'T STAND is when people get SO OFFENDED when you call their barking machine annoying or irritating. Just... GOD. Train your dog! Don't sit there pretending like your dog is a great dog because it isn't! geeze.
I think everyone should do required reading and research before owning a pet. There's no way to enforce it, but if there were, animals would be a lot happier coz they wouldn't be in crappy homes with ignorant people-folk.
What drove me the most insane was these people NEVER tried to get their dogs to stop barking. They just acted like they weren't barking at all. I was like, come on people, how can you not hear that?!?!
These are probably the same people with the wild screaming children that get into everything but don't do anything about it that you see while out shopping. >_<;;
Actually, they are the same people whose wild screaming children were always in my yard getting into our stuff and screaming at us while we were outside (and by that I mean standing 3 feet from you and screaming at you at the top of their lungs, literally). There were many, many occasions where I actually had to go to their house, knock on the door, and inform whatever adult bothered to answer that they needed to come remove their children from my property. They are the same people who, when their children were 2 years old, would let them wander aimlessly all over the neighborhood, streets and wherever with no parental supervision of any kind. They didn't pay anymore attention to their children then they did to their dogs. It was a very frustrating situation because there really wasn't anything we could do about it.
THANK YOU! I just bought a new house and the neighbor across the back ally drives us nuts, there dog races back and forth along the back fence barking every time it hears a sound, wither it’s us going out, Adora in the yard, even the slight sound of a distant car and sirens (we live very close to a hospital, and near nursing homes, so we here them a lot). And they do nothing about it. Then one day they were outside while I was doing some yard work with Adora running around and I walked into the garage and shut the door, when through the open window they had the nerve to say "why does she have to let her damn dog out while ours is out and make 'name' bark". I was stunned because Adora does not bark she ignores this dog completely. sometimes she will look in his direction and tilt her head listening then look at us. Even though he barks when she isn't out, and I’m just taking out garbage, going to and from the car.... And they just sat there mad at me and my dog quietly minding our own business not even doing anything about their dog, who was still barking for the last hour.

While living at the condo, we had a problem with neighbors letting their dogs out unsupervised in there open yard, basically free to do whatever and go where ever. When taking Adora out when she was 3 months one of the neighbors dogs ran out of there yard and tried to attack Adora while we were in the shared field, luckily I was able to pick her up and yell at the dog to stop it. Then the owner comes out and I tell him his dog just tried to attack my puppy, he rolled his eyes and went inside w/ dog. Let’s just say I called and reported it to the city pound and I was quite pleased how serious they took everything. But i can't help but wonder what happends inside those walls.

Then we had issues with another neighbor letting their dog out and it would poop in the common areas, in our yard, in other peoples yard, it even ran into our condo one day while we were heading out and we had to try to herd it out, because it wouldn't let us get near it without snapping, barking and lunging. I was happy that Adora, just 9 weeks at the time, was in her create.

And never mind people and their dogs at the dog park. Letting their dog attack, lung, hump, steal other dogs toys. And they just sit there and laugh or not even watch their dog while the other owner is outraged, and trying to save or protect their dog, or get their dogs toy back. If Adora didn't love the place so much I would start taking her somewhere else.

I agree that some people just shouldn't be allowed to have a pet; a dog, cat, bird, bunny, horse ect...
I gotta disagree with you on one point here "letting their dog steal other dogs' toys." My theory is, if you bring a dog toy to a dog park and throw it, don't get mad when a dog picks it up and runs with it. Dogs don't understand that the ball belongs to someone. Anytime I take a ball to the dog park, I expect it to be "thieved" by another dog. I actually can't stand the people that bring a ball, and then get annoyed when my dog grabs it and takes it. It's a dog toy, dogs can't read someone's name on it.
We have a Westie in the neighborhood....all i can say is YYYYYEEEEAAAHHHH...I feel you pain...YAP YAP YAP........It even annoys my dogs....they this SH*T she's barking again kinda look on their faces. ^-^
We have an neighbor with a little white dog (have no clue what it is) but uhm.. she doesn't speak english too well so I'm unsure if she understands the letter the home owners group sends all of us about having to have your dog on a leash and pick up after them...

but I swear.. she's asking to get it stolen or lost because she just tosses that poor dog outside in the front and leaves it there for about an hour hoping that it goes.. which it does.. in the little green in front of our houses and where the kids play.. and then she tries to call it in every time and it RUNS AWAY! So of course you hear her running after it screaming its name three to four times a day.... (we live in an apartment complex right now so its a little green in the center circled by our houses which in turn are circled by the parking lot.. so we are all close).

So on that note.. while I feel sorry for the dog if it gets lost.. that doesn't bug me more then the fact that its like she waits for me to go out to play with MY dogs and tosses hers out in hopes I'll play with hers too.. Which interrupts our play time and of course I'll feel bad if her dog runs away while Im out there.. then I feel bad just leaving it when we want to go in (about 3 min after she dumps her dog outside.... 60min if she doesn't...) so its infuriating if I just want to play with my dogs and do activities with them...

I AM NOT YOUR DOGS SITTER! GAH!
i am so with u on this!! omg i have 3 neighbors who have two dogs each just sit chained up outside all the time! and just bark at each other, i have seen the owners maybe onece in 9months i have been living here. its like why even have a dog if u r just going to shun it?? i look at all my babies and think"i could never do that" i dont understand it. or people who dont correct their dog in anything they do wrong! i have worked hard so they know what is right and what is wrong. i had friends who thought they were doing the right thing and i had to show them what to do, like potty training, their dog is 7yrs old and still not potty trained! and the reason was she left food out and didnt take them out for so many hrs and didnt correct them...just amazes me what people think! and it makes me wonder if they provide vet care or anything. this month i spent almost $400 on both my cats and dogs monthly check up, microchips, flea and heart worm tests and the flea/hearteorm preventive and the cats adult shots. i feel so bad for my neighbors dogs..:( poor babies
