...his stomach is as tight a s a drum. He is a 3 year-old male, but looks pregnant. Labored movements. He looks so pitiful. He can't go up or down stairs. I have to carry him outside to do his business. Daily diarrhea. Still has appetite though (He's on Wellness Adult). The vet told us to get Zantax, and said to bring him in if he doesn't get better over the weekend, but I can't bare watch him suffer. I wish there was something I could do......

Anyone ran into this?

I'm so sorry for you and Tod. I don't have any advice, just wanted to say I'm sorry you have to go thru this and I hope he feels better soon. (and it seems like children and pets always get sick on weekends Or at night)

This worries me that you say his stomach is tight and painful. When he eats is he able to keep the food down? Usually when you hear of a tight bloated abdomen it is cause for concern and a serious emergency. If he is eating without vomiting the food back up then it's not as much of a concern. I hope he feels better soon poor guy. May be worth feeding him a bland diet (boiled chicken breast and white rice) for a few days to see if the diarrhea gets better.

I think I would bring him to the vet personally.

I would take him to the vet also  especially if he isn't keeping the food down....poor Tod...feel better soon!

thanks, guys....Tod is keeping his food down. Which is good news.

With a hard abdomen and labored movements I would not wait.  I'd be afraid of some sort of blockage or other major gastro problem.   Honestly I'd bring my dog in same day with those symptoms;  don't mean to scare you but there are some very serious things that can cause those sort of symptoms, along with some more minor ones.

My Maddie was so much in pain from her spay surgery (she was an adult) that she refused to walk at all and she still had an appetite; she ate propped up in her crate because she could hardly stand.   Some dogs just never lose their appetite and it's not always a good barometer of health.

Is he having constipation or other problems with his bowels?  I would worry about an intestinal obstruction which could be serious.

no ... in fact the stool this morning was fine. I am really puzzled. This is the 3rd time we are taking Tod to the vet.

I think I would be at the vet. Hope that he feels better soon.

Appointment is at 11am. The doc that usually handles Tod is not going to be in, but we're going anyway......

Keep us posted.  Baron has his paws crossed.

thnx, Baron:)
