My dad just called and said that their corgies are going to have puppies and I would have pick of the litter. I'm really wanting a Tri, Does any one know the likley hood of the parents (black head tri female and a sable male, who's mom was a tri) having tri babies???

For the litter of my two pups mom was black headed tri and dad was a red and white, who's mom was a tri. Out of a litter of 7 there where 3 tri's (2 red heads and 1 black), and the other 4 where red and whites. So i say it is likely but I'm no breeder or expert.
Here is the simple explanation, and here is the loooong explanation.

Since they both have the recessive tri color gene. My genetics is really rusty. I imagine the 1/4 to 1/2 would be tri in your case?
Good grief. I had serious trouble with that second link and I'm a biologist!

Basic brief in Mendalian genetics: The question seems to be whether a tri coat is recessive or dominant. If it's dominant and one parent is tri, half the litter will be tri-colored. If the tri-color gene is recessive, and one parent is tri-colored, while the other parent is sable but has a tri parent (which means it'll be carrying a recessive tri gene) then half the litter will be tri-colored.

So either way, you'll end up with a half-tri litter, assuming the genetics of corgi coat color are as simple as a single gene. :)
I can only commenet on my 2 litters with Wynn my red/shite and Livvy my tri...I have many sables but no tris! I would think with the tri and the sable the chances would be good for a tri!
Well, with Jane's data, I suppose we can conclude (as the other websites say) that the tri gene is recessive. Ashlee, the upcoming litter should still be half tri, since the sable has one tri parent and is therefore carrying the tri gene, though unexpressed. :) I'm so excited for you and your puppies-to-be!
Sorry for all the miss spelled words...I was in a hurry and didn't read it after! Can't wait to hear the end results...when are they due?????
Thanks for all the Input, If Dad's female "took" they should have puppies around thanksgiving. They have a ffriend that has an ultrasound machine and are going to take her there in a month to know for sure. I'll keep you all updated on what she has and post pictures.
The breeder I got Orion from had puppies in august with Orion's dad (sable) and a black-headed tri female. Three of the pups were tri and the other three were sable. (all males too, weird)
Wynn has at least 75% females every time...I keep on telling people that he doesn't want any competition.
