Our corgi puppy, Rufus, is almost 5 months old. He is high energy, loves to be outside, as do I. I'm interested how far we can walk together. The breeder said to keep it at one
mile, but I don't know for how long. Does anyone in the group know about this?

About 15 minutes
Sorry, I should have been more specific. At walking speed, about 15 minutes is a mile (4 miles/hour). 20 minutes if you are walking at a relaxed pace (3 miles/hour).
Well Po when he was a puppy was walked about 2 to 3 blocks- more than 15 minutes for us with he's constant stopping. Po also grew quickly- he was 3/4 full size around 7 months and full grown about 9 months. Due to his tendency to gain weight easy he required longer walks, so usually had a 2 to 3 block walk in the morning and a slightly longer walk in the afternoon. I'd ask your vet- they can give you appropriate information in relation to Rufus' specific needs.
For a puppy frequent walks of 15 to 30 minutes probably would be best. Between their paw pads and body growth you don't want to over do it. As adults I regularly walk mine 2 to 5 miles.
Our breeder was quite firm with me about "no big challenges" in the first year. You want the growth plates on the long bones fused before any really tough stuff.
Thanks to all who gave me the info. We'll do short walks well spaced.
Shiro was fine for up to 30 min walks at 5 months. Anything above that and I had to carry him or rest or drag him.
Your puppy might be different and you can check how soon he'll get tired when you walk. He'll sit down and refuse to walk forther or just lay down on the grass with the tongue out. The sign of tiredness usually disapeas when the home is in sight. Just make sure you always stay close to the house so you don't have to repeat my mistakes. LOL
It's interesting to hear the range of ideas. This puppy would never get tired at 30 minutes. I've
never seen such a goer! I am supplementing walks with retrieving games inside. I'm grateful
he's learned how to return the ball, at least so far! Thanks to all responses.
