Hey everyone it's Harlequin's Momma, Caitlin!

I have grown to notice whenever Harlequin gets excited to see someone, she piddles! Even after I take her out to go potty, she will still piddle... not much, just a little.More like a whizzle than a piddle.

I assume it just because of her tiny bladder. Will it stop once she gets older? She's 13 weeks and been doing really good on her potty training... this is the only thing that others deem as a "problem." I see this as normal thing that happens to a puppy. Especially a puppy of her size... Our lab was twice her size at 13 weeks old!

I just wanted to confirm that this is just a puppy thing... or is there something I have to do?

Thanks!

Is she piddling at the site of something exciting or when somebody new bends down to pet her? If it is just somebody bending down to pet her just have the person wait until the excitement is gone for the person to reward her with a pet. Try to wait until she sits, it will not only teach her manners but also eliminate the piddles. If not careful the piddles will continue. Good luck!

she piddles at the site of something exciting! I'm the only one she doesn't piddle for when happy to see lol but imma try that... no petting her til she calms down!

Thank you!

Milly used to piddle for the males that came over. I think because all the males love dogs and all the women not so much:) Someone told me it is a submissive thing. However; it does stop! She was about 8 mths old when she stopped except occasionally until she was one. Just keep paper towels handy:)

Probably just submissive urination. She should outgrow it.

We had a Golden Retriever that did this and he did not outgrow it so I trained him to go to his place (a rug in the kitchen) when ever people came over until after he calmed down. That ended it.

Bertie used to do this too, as a pup, in the months before he started lifting his leg to pee.  Seems like bladder control and leg lifting developed together, somehow.  And I was living in an apartment!  So we'd walk out to the elevator to go outside -- but if a neighbor he knew came by, he'd "leak" a little.  Sometimes I'd have to carry him out of the building on his back, because he'd be so thrilled to see the doormen, we had issues in the lobby!  LOL.   He grew out of it -- it was just a matter of gaining better control.
