Finnigan trips on his front paws but his front nails are all worn pretty short, probably from him trying to run while he's on the leash which turns into running in place which files his nails. His back nails are longer, especially the outer nails.

yet another question.... Fin's front toenails are wearing unevenly. The middle ones are quite worn down, while the two outer ones are longer. He and I do walk a couple miles a day and a few times a week I do notice him tripping. Could this be a Cardigan thing ? His front feet are so big and round ; )

thanks for the tips guys ! Alice I haven't tried the head collar, but am getting close. I am back to obedience school next week. And the trainers where I go are pretty hard core. They own and train Aussies and don't put up with any crap. (very alpha females ) : ) I will keep you updated blessings

I use the gentle leader head collar. http://www.gentleleader.com/
90% of it is conditioning the dog to wear it. Once you get over that hurdle, it's smooth sailing, I love mine. I use it on Nora for obedience. Once it's on her, she knows it's time to get serious. Some people are really freaked out by them but i love it. I've even bought one for the puppy already!

Dawn,
I have not tried a prong collar. I'm not really a supporter of them. They may work initially but it's been proven that dogs develop calluses and the prongs no longer effect them as they did in the beginning. My Finn is the same way. He pulls and pulls and get's so excited when he sees people or dogs that his excitement level shoots up and won't come back down. It's quite a work out and very frustrating. He has been getting a little better about not pulling so much when no one is around though. We've tried various harnesses and collars and none of them are a magic fix. Something I think I'm going to try is the head harness. If it forces him to turn his head when he pulls it may help. Even the no pull harness may help. Have you tried either of those?

Happy Holidays everyone! Hope the new year brings much happiness and prosperity and everything that '09 lacked. :)

Question and looking for a little help. Has anyone had any success using a prong/pinch collar on their Corgi ? I have tried just about everything on Fin and he still pulls ridiculously. He even pulls with a chain choker (I know how to use it ) And a recent purchase of a plastic type prong collar. He is 9 months old and just SOOO full of it. He tries to obey but when he sees people or other dogs goes nutso . Even after a couple miles he isn't tiring..... thanks and Merry Christmas !!
