30 year old photo - Rookie, w. baby Lindsay

Rookie loved Lindsay and was always there protecting her. I can't imagine ever worrying about how Rookie would react to the birth of Lindsay, our first baby. I also can't imagine keeping them apart. Prior to our babies, Rookie was always with me. No matter how late I'd be up working, he'd be right there with his regal head on my foot. He was incensed when we came home with a new Corgi, Maggie. Maggie was 14 wks. and Rookie was 6 mo. He tried every which way to keep from entering a room. When she persevered, he pushed her into our pool. Eventually they became inseparable best friends. But, Maggie never was devoted to the babies like Rookie. Maybe Rookie just kept them to himself.

How do I ever get over losing my best friend? I had to make the awful decision to send her over The Bridge on Oct 10 2011. Still to this day I cry over losing her. I do have a new puppy coming Feb…Continue

But music in your blood and poetry in your soul."

I'm so happy to have found this group! I hate to burden others on this site with my sorrow and past tense stories. I guess we can all agree that our dogs are part of the lucky few whose families love them enough to grieve.

Yes, Bev it is heart healing to share happy times regarding our beloved friends who are now gone. Oh, btw it made me smile when LUCY called theirs the Gork; our Cork was the dork. :)

Haha. It reminds me of Gorki protecting his bone all night. Every time I made a late night refrigerator raid, The Gork would run from wherever he was sleeping and race to cover the bone with his head. One of the things I especially loved about him (when I was a teenager still living at home) was that he would guard the top of the steps to my bedroom and not let my mom come into my room!

Kathy, It really helps to remember the good stuff doesn't it? Buffy loved our cat Spud and I have their photo on my bedroom shelves. Every time I see it, it reminds me of Spud holding her head in his paws and vigorously washing her face and ears. They were really cute taking turns washing each other.

I have a funny story to share about Corky. For some reason it popped up in my head and made me smile. As Scott shared, Corky was his dog and very attached to Scott. One summer day (it was gorgeous outside!) so I offered to give Scott a haircut out on the deck. It was getting pretty long and I had some time. Of course, Corky was close by wondering what we were up to. I started cutting and hair was falling all over the place and here was Corky, just beside himself to keep the hair in a pile so he could lay in it (protect it). We had a chuckle about it while Corky was looking frantic...wish I took a pick of that!

I so agree, Wendy and Jack. It gives me relief from the pain of missing them to think of them having a blast.

I hope all of our angel dogs are together––wiggling about and nipping the ankles of each other.

To Edward and Gemima, Phinneas was a gorgeous corgi. I must have missed that post when I scrolled through. How sad about Phinneas. Driving with my kids in the car...I always do worry about an accident. And how nice to refer to him as your angel dog.
