What dosage do you use for the Zyrtec? The Benadryl just isn't doing the job anymore. Her poor feet! I'm hoping that with the weather getting cooler her allergies will stop. Its just the last 2 weeks that her allergies have flared up...isn't this late in the season for it?

My sister's German Shepherd suffers terribly from all sorts of allergies, including pollen/grass/"spring" allergies, and chews holes in her skin. My vet recently suggested wiping her coat with a damp washcloth and washing her feet after she's been out in the park. Remarkably, dogs have histamine receptors in their feet: they chew on their paws because they itch. (Poor design, if you ask me. Where are a dog's feet but in the grass?)

Corgi Angus gets the occasional Zyrtec because he also seems to have "spring" allergies--when I'm sneezing from high pollen counts, his ears and the skin on his belly turn bright pink.

Hi everyone! We just joined this group. Finding out what Murphy was allergic to was a very long process and got kind of expensive because of all the vet trips we had to take. The vet let us try giving him a mix of a antihistamine and steroid pill which worked the first week and then didn't anymore, then we tried giving him Zyrtec but that was only temporary also. We asked people on this site what they thought it could be and everyone generally pointed toward his food and possibly grains which made sense since he didn't start acting this way till we started feeding him an oatmeal and grain based food. So, we switched him to a grain-less food with Salmon instead of chicken and he's been fine since. Wouldn't it be a lot easier if they could just tell us what's wrong? Before we figured it out, he was scratching and biting constantly. I felt terrible for him. I'm glad he's feeling better now. I just hope the vet notices on Friday when he goes for his annual check up.

Remember now too it may take a while for their stool to harden up when i switched my dogs over it took about 6 weeks for their stool to be normal, it was pretty soft serve like for awhile, so dont be too worried. It shouldnt be liquid though.

our corgi's hanna and kaley have been itching all the sudden, we have never had a problem with them, I think it is because of the dry winter weater too, they are already on an all natural diet due to or cairne terrier having allergies. I have been bathing them in an oatmeal shampoo and using neem oil, the oil usually heals any sore withing a day to two. and washing them everytime they go out to get the pollen off them

Our poor Stanley. He has all of a sudden scratched himself raw on his shoulder. All we can think of is that the dry winter weather is causing this issue. We have a humidifier going constantly to try and keep moisture in the house. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

OH, one of the best chewies I have had no problems with my Bella is a brand named Merrick, they do all natural puffed products like pigs snouts and ears.. they aren't rayhide and they break down naturally in the system and shouldn't ever cause any blockages. She LOVES them! I would recommend giving them a try for any corgis with allergies as they are all natural and they last a long time too :)

Hi all!! I just joined today and am so glad to see other corgis out there with similiar issues as my Bella.. I literally just got home from the vet and now my poor pup is wearing a cone around her neck from itching and chewing too much! Poor baby! I guess it looks as though she might be allergic to grass. The Home Owner Association does our lawn work here and I believe may have used a fertilizer that triggered this issue. I already feed her really good organic allergy food, Natural Balance Fish and Potato, but now it looks like she has environmental allergies as well. I feel so bad for the girl! Great to read all the comments and I will post how she does with the meds she is on now :) Cheers!

Hi all, Just wanted to share a little bit about my corgi Oli and his situation. He has skin allergies, which stem mostly from food and any contact with red clay. We have had him on every kind of food imaginable, from prescription Royal Canin to the cheaper options. Recently we found one that really keeps his itchiness and breaking out at bay. It's called Halo, and the company is actual sponsored by Ellen Degeneres. The food is all-natural, and even has bits of carrots, peas, and other fruits and veggies mixed in with the kibble. He loves it, and we've noticed a huge improvement in his skin and coat. I highly recommend it.

I think Corky has outgrown his problems, i let him have small rawhides a lot because he chews constantly! And if he doesnt have anything to chew that is his, he sneaks in my closet and loves my cutest heels, not any old ones no he has good taste and takes the newest, so he gets a rawhide. I once gave him a big one and he does eat them and it gave him the runs, so he just gets one or two small ones a day. But when he was having allergy issues i used the natural balance treats and he liked them i dont remeber off hand which but also the, "kong" toys are good too they are usually rubber ones! I cant beleive a corgi that is picky about food Corky eats ANYthing and ALL of it instantly! My girl friend suggested i put stones with his food so he slows down when he eats it. my daughter when she watches him eat she throws her arms up when he finishes like a rodeo cowboy after they rope a calf in the allotted time to stop the clock, it takes him like 1 minute to finish his food! Little piggy!
