I am glad there is all of this pumpkin talk going on! A few weeks ago I was told at my Kroger that the pumpkin would be in soon but that might want to order a case! Pumpkin is VERY seasonal AND if there is a poor crop there isn't much to go around. I have bought two big cans but I feel like I need to stock up. This week I have been putting Twinkie on the treadmill and treating her with a pumpkin pop afterwards. I told her to take it outside to eat it and she DID! So cute! Good luck to all the chubbies!

Stupid question..... where do you get the pureed pumpkin? I looked at Walmart in the spices and such aisle.  I also looked at Brookshires. He does look like he is loosing some now. I have also added grean beans to his diet. thanks have a great day!!

I think the pumpkin pops r great..............u can also use FAT FREE chicken broth n freeze them.........My shaka was put on food from the vet which was very expensive...she didn't lose a lb. after 12 months., so I change up I use either venison n sweet pot or slmon n sweet pot...she gets 1/2c a.m n the same in the p.m.....I fill in with some multi grain cheerio's recommend by our trainer n ok by the vet........i also occasionaly use the tip of a banana frozen or reg as a treat But no more............Rosemary

The good thing about corgis Denise, is that they eat almost anything. I was worried about Twinkie's weight so I started to take down the amount of kibble she got and replaced it with green beans or pureed pumpkin (NOT PIE FILLING). She loved the food and all of the extra attention. To make things easier, I scooped the pumpkin onto servings onto a cookie sheet and froze them. I then put all of the blobs into a plastic bag. I'll bet a cold pumpkin pop would be an awesome treat for a hot corgi. This site is full of good ideas. Good luck!

I may sound like a bad dog mom, but Labus is 46 lbs.  Vet wants him at 38 lbs. He had prostrate problems last year, got fixed and the weight came on.  Now granted he is a big corgi, but non the less. Vet put him on the purinia OM.  With only one bone a day. Of course no table scraps, but I never give them that any way. He was on science diet light, but just not lossing.     Wish us luck!!

I am happy to say that Korey is no longer overweight! The green beans & weight control food did the trick and she's now at a healthy weight.

Oh yeah, and I feed her 1 cup of her food once a day in the evening. Should I spread her meals out?

The last time I weighed Korey she was 35 pounds! D: I have her on Iams Weight Control food and am trying to exercise her more. Her weight's gone down since then... any advice  to get her to a healthy weight?

I want to share some success that we have just had with our overweight Corgi, Taffy. She has been on Hill's Prescription Diet food (R/D) which is low calorie & low fat. Her Vet prescribed this about 6 months ago & said that it will help her lose weight as well as change the fat/muscle ratio in a positive (muscle) direction. We almost felt as if we were starving her, but with one cup of this chow in the AM & one cup in PM.....she has lost 1 lb as of Thrs...thrilling her vet & us! Also, she had a high blood sugar level 6 mos back & it appears to be well under control with this diet. We worried so much as she appeared to be on a fast track to becoming diabetic. She is now 4 yrs old. This chow has also produced a remarkable perkiness in her & she chooses to run here & there just for fun & bounces around like she used to do! While weight loss is SLOW.....it is going in the right direction...we try to increase activity & she adores green beans (raw/fresh...sometimes we have to snap them in half for her to be excited by them) for treats....those are the only treats EVER in the house!! We are also working on getting her to walk more & she is doing that! So, don't give up on your chubby Corgi.....our other two dogs (different breeds) have lost more than 10% of their body weight on this food also......they did not have weight issues but apparently the leaner the better from what the vet says!! Best of luck all!!
