Could someone tell me about the green bean thing? Do you give them fresh green beans, canned green beans, what? I need to get some weight off Cheyenne. The only treat she gets is Iams weight control treats. Cottage cheese...hmm, never thought about that.

Hello!! Sometimes having been overweight does have an advantage!! Because Ein was soooo much overweight at one point in his life, he has extra skin, super thick fur, and ok he is still a little overweight. He was attacked by a pitbull, his size, extra skin and super thick fur really saved his bacon!! He is still at the hospital, but doing much better, and will be coming home soon. If it would have been one of my other corgis, they wouldn't have made it. My vet said he has the strangest injury she's ever seen from that type of attack, but he will be fine!!

Hi Kaylin, when i started this group i desperatly needed some advice on how to reduce Wilfs weight. At the time he was 20 kg and looked like a barrell. Its a case of tough love, he was only 9 months old and i spoilt him. I did the green bean and cottage cheese diet for five days and cut his dried food down to 2 meals a day (100g each ) and i walk him twice a day for an hour a time. Its been hard work and i do treat him now and again but yest at 13 months old he weighed in at 19.5 kg. At his heaviest he was almost 24kg. He is a large Cardigan Corgi with a powerful broad chest but now he has a waist!!!!!

Hello from Bunny and Cathi!
Bunny's on a reduced amount of dry kibble (Canidae Platinum) and green beans, pumpkin, water based veggies and a few bits of apples now and then.
She's lost a bit of weight since starting this three weeks ago, will take her in next week to check her progress.
She started at 38.6 lbs on 2/6 this year. That day she had surgery to remove a breast lump (benign thankfully!) and have her ACL checked (she tore it the day before jumping off the couch). Vet said her weight contributed to the tear. Slow healing process - owie.
I keep green beans, thawed frozen ones, in the fridge to give her as a treat during the day. Two or three at a time, amazing how she loves them! Carrots, celery, zucchini, asparagus, romaine lettuce is one of her favs. Good thing we eat a lot of salads.
She has her own veggie garden during the summer, sits in the strawberry bed to eat them. Digs her own carrots occassionally. All of my other beds are raised so that she can have what she wants and keeps busy.
What other healthy ideas does anyone have?

I must admit, Lenny has had a bit of the "tubby" trouble in the past, but only a few pounds overweight. The best advice I can give is portion control and no table scraps! If I fed my boy every time he thought he needed to eat, well, he'd be the size of a house.

First of all, I have to say your little fur-baby is precious. . . .My fur-babies eat only one meal a day, I checked with my Vet and she said these little guys act like they are always STARVING. . .ain't it truth!!! lololol. . .she said that one "healthy" meal is good for them but it doesn't hurt to give them "little" treats throughout the day. . .at which time they get either 1 biscuit or 1 beef strip each. . .they too go for their walks and they love to run, chase each other and have good 'ol Corgi fun in the back yard. . . .but aside of all their activities, my little Babs is prone to gaining weight even though her diet isn't any different than Sid or Babs, so with her, I pay special attention to her portions, I had the vet run special Thyroid tests to see if maybe her Thyroid was off but the tests came back negative. . .that was a relief!!!. . . .I let Babs know that she's getting just as much as Sid or Babs, but I know it's just a tad under. . . .It took a while to get them used to their "one" meal a day, but now they wake me at 2:00 a.m. (my normal hours LOL) for their breakfast, we all go into the kitchen and I start to cook up their kibble with real beef or chicken broth (minus the excess fat that forms at the top when cooled), cut up veggies and what I call Grandma's pot pie (a mixture of homemade lowfat gravy and cut up beef and chicken bits). . . .yummy, I'm getting hungry. . . .LOL

I left a previous post on your page. Your Boy is Beautiful. Isn't it amazing how loving these dogs are?
