Stanley's One Month Update! Thanks for Your Advice Everyone!

I can't believe that Stanley has been here for a month already!  The dynamics between Stanley and Stella have definitely changed in the past week.  She was grumbly with him and cautious for the first couple of weeks.  She also was looking for Annie, her husky sister she grew up with, who had to be put to sleep only days after Stan arrived.  In this last week, though, Stella has been initiating play with Stanley, and they even share toys now.  She chases him around the house and loves to herd…

Stella's Big Day

I took Stella to my parents' house today. They have a lot of land and not only did she get to chase tennis balls in their yard, but my dad took her for a walk along the entire property. She was very good and followed his commands off-leash. My mom also fed her tons of treats, as usual. When we came back she was REALLY tired. I thought I'd share this pic of her lounging out corgi style. :)…

Little Stella is a year old today!

Hello Everyone,

I've been really busy recently and it's been a while since I've posted or commented here, but I wanted to give a quick update on my (no longer) puppy, Stella. She is an April fool and turned 1 today! I thought I'd post some pictures to show how she's grown. I took the first one when I went to pick her out. She's only a little over 6 weeks and SO tiny! The second one is her now. She's really "filled out," let's just say! I look at some of her other… Continue

Stella's Nose-Map! What do you think? Do you see it?

Over Christmas, my brother met Stella for the first time and he made an interesting observation. He was petting her and said, "Hey! She has a map of the Continental U.S. on her nose!" At first, I didn't know what he was talking about, but then I saw it! I had never noticed it before. I always thought that the white star of fur on the back of her neck was her most interesting mark, but this is hilarious! Check it out! To me, it looks like the coasts are reversed, though. I said that to my… Continue

Stella's surgery went well and she's back home!

Just a quick update on Stella. They said her surgery went well and I was able to pick her up this morning! :) She's back home and resting. She's still a little out of it from the meds. But she ate as soon as I brought her home, so that's a good sign! Here's a picture of her. They put the scarf on her at the veterinary hospital. In case you didn't see my response to my previous post, thanks to everyone who wrote and gave me advice and shared their… Continue

A big week for Stella: Graduating puppy kindergarten and getting spayed on Friday! Yikes! How do I keep her calm while she heals?

Little Stella just completed her last day of puppy kindergarten! She did really well! She already knew a lot of the commands to some extent before she started, but she's definitely a LOT more focused now. She's especially good with "stay" (which is REALLY important for crazy corgis!). She also does fun tricks now like spinning. :) The same trainer is offering an intermediate class, and I'm definitely going to take her. An agility class starts this… Continue

Little Stella is 6 months old today!

Stella turned 6 months old today, so I thought I'd write an update on her. She is growing every day and probably weighs around 17-18 pounds already! She is halfway through her first round of obedience-puppy kindergarten- and doing really well. She picks everything up really fast! She's my first Corgi and I just can't believe how smart they are! There's an agility class coming up, and I hope I can start her in some basics. She has so much energy and is… Continue

Starting Puppy Kindergarten---FINALLY! What should I expect?

Stella starts puppy kindergarten this Tuesday! I've never taken a puppy to kindergarten classes before, so this will be a first for both of us. Even before I got Stella I was planning to take my Corgi to classes because of their bold reputation--which Stella is definitely living up to! She's living up to the high intelligence reputation, too, so that helps. Anyway, if you happen to read this post and want to comment about your pup before and after… Continue

Stella's Favorite Game-Herding Tennis Balls! (A good way to tire out your Corgi puppy)

So I thought I would post about Stella's new favorite game because it has not only been good for her, but also for me since it tires her out quickly! I used to play fetch with various toys and a tennis ball, and then one day I threw all of the tennis balls from the can for her to chase. She's hilarious because she goes crazy trying to herd them--she's like a little goalie! I play this with her on the deck since I only have a small yard that is not fenced in. I walk her a lot in the neighborhood… Continue

Peanut Butter Hater!

I was wondering if peanut butter was an acquired taste--if some dogs eventually grow to like it, or if a dog won't eat it as a puppy they probably never will? My Stella will eat ANYTHING---any type of dog food, meat, veggies (even peas!) and non-food--dirt, rocks, wood, bugs and even plastic! But she REFUSES peanut butter!! I've tried a few times now, and with different kinds-natural, other, sweeter name brands, and the dog-marketed stuff, and she has turned it all down. Does anyone have a… Continue
