Dogs don't listen with squirrels in the yard confirmed.

I was sitting outback reading a book with Einstein (well, he wasn't actually reading), when a squirrel decided to make a run from the side of the house he'd been hiding on to the fence. He bolted and Ein took off after him and I was yelling for Einstein to stop since I didn't really want him to kill the squirrel. Einstein not only didn't stop, he didn't even register I was speaking at all. Not an ear twitch or a glance in my direction. He was so focused nothing I did mattered. Luckily after a… Continue

Anyone have experience with "Halt" the dog mace?

I just bought some on Amazon.com. It's supposed to be citronella based instead of pepper based which hurts less and is just as effective. There are a few people in our neighborhood with scary dogs, like the pit bull owners that used to live across the street I blogged about, that think it's ok to have their dogs off leash. I think it's an ego problem when you think you are so in control all the time that leash laws don't apply to you. We've also had a problem with another neighbor with two very… Continue

Spay and neuter your pets!

This is so, so important. In San Antonio alone 26,207 pets were euthanized just last year. Already this year 4,000 have been put down. 73% of the animals brought to the shelter last year were euthanized-many on the first day they arrived due to overcrowding. There is rampant overcrowding and San Antonio they are trying their best to control this problem. 100,000 animals a year would have to be spay/neutered to make this a kill free city by 2012. Due to the rally to get this job done last year… Continue

Tasha Tudor

I just read The Private World of Tasha Tudor. She died recently-God rest her soul. Here's some of what she said about corgis in her book.

"There is no other dog that can compare to a corgi. They're the epitome of beauty............They're such characters-a mixture of a dog and a cat, I think. They especially don't like to be scolded in public. They talk back; they growl and show their teeth and pretend they're frightfully savage. However, they never criticize. You're always beautiful… Continue

Speaking of instinct...

Who's corgi has the natural herding instinct and who's doesn't? Mine both do-Einstein more than Daisy. We never had to train them but they both will chase circles around us if we go running in the back yard. Einstein gets a crazy look in his eyes and starts this weird bark/growl while he chases our feet with his lazer like focus. He also nips heels and has been known to bite ankles. Daisy goes in circles barking VERY loudly the entire time and tends to stop right in front of you to make you… Continue

Favorite/least favorite dog breed

Surprise! Corgis are my favorites and they know it!!!

Pit bulls are not only the scariest most deadly breed but are also my least favorite. Also pretty much any dangerous "bully" breed. I live in San Antonio and you hear about pit bull deaths a lot. A couple days ago a 7 month old adorable baby boy was killed. Terrible tragic stuff. A 9 year old girl from our church was attacked a couple years back by a couple of pits that got loose from their owner and ripped half her face off going… Continue

Has nothing to do with corgis but it's a really sweet story...

The Sack Lunches

I put my carry-on in the luggage compartment and sat down in my

assigned seat. It was going to be a long flight.'I'm glad I have a

good book to read Perhaps I will get a short nap,' I thought.

Just before take-off, a line of soldiers came down the aisle and

filled all the vacant seats, totally surrounding me I decided to

start a conversation.

'Where are you headed?' I… Continue

Just a dog.

It' Just a Dog

From time to time people tell me, "Lighten up, it's just a dog," or, "That's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent or the costs involved for "just a dog."

Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog."

Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," but I did not once feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog," and,… Continue

Best thing about the Furminator..

Brushing out mountains of hair and watching the sparrows collect it for their nests in the spring.
