Eewww...Eating mouthfuls of dried cut up grass!

Okay so we have been walking in the neighborhood past the school where they cut the grass but leave behind the clippings. Well Lance just thinks that is the best treat ever! He will keep eating chunks of it. It is like he cant get enough of it! I do notice that his poop has been firmer since he has been eating the chards of grass.

I have heard that eating grass settles their stomach and can make them throw up. Lance does not throw up from eating grass and never has. Lance has eaten grass in our backyard but we dont leave behind the clippings so he grazes the grass, never seemed to do much, but the piles of grass watch out!

Has anyone experienced anything like this?? I joke with my husband that we need to start mulching our lawn! What is everyones thought on this, please share!

I'd be careful about letting your dogs eat grass just anywhere. Down here in Texas lots of people have chemical treated lawns, and I'm sure thats probably not good for them. I don't even let Didi eat our grass because of the run-off.

Mochi and her neighbor doggie friends LOVE to do this. Especially when we go play after they have just cut the grass so there are little patties of dried up grass littering the field. We chase them around and tell them to drop it but they take 2 steps and there's another pattie!! But she doesn't throw up so i guess its OK. Now the gross thing that they LOVE to do over eating the grass patties is parts of the field where the sprinklers turns the grass into swampy mushy mess... the Dogs LOVE i mean LOVE to go and eat the mushy mud grass mixture!!! blah!!! no matter how much we tell them NO they always wander back to that spot...

Corey loves to graze on the grass in my yard. He will roam around and eat the grass outside for at least 15 minutes a day. I think I should have named him moo cow! The only time he doesn't do this is when it is raining.

My dad grew up with a pack of dogs on a farm in the south and when I was growing up we had a black lab that did this in the back yard. He said that dogs do this to help upset stomachs so I wouldn't be surprised about their stool being firmer or better afterwards hehe.

She was picky about it though.. apparently some grass is fresher then other hahah. I've only seen Roxi do this a few times.

I know in the wild, wolves will eat the grass that is in the stomach of their kill (eewww!). I guess it may help with digesting or something. And yes, it's better than eating the "tootsie rolls" the cat leaves behind....any day!

Lance eats Huge piles of dried up cut grass and doesnt get sick from it, I think it helps him digest his food? Anyone hear of grass helping digest food?

spencer loves a good bit of grass now and then......not sure what it is...maybe its a stomach thing or maybe Lance just likes the taste of it

Shippo used to do this as a puppy, but he'd gulp down so much, he'd go in the house and cough it back up on the floor. He eventually grew out of it though.

The wierdest part for us is that it actually seems to help Lances poop!!
