Crate training really is the way to go IMHO. Izzie gave me gruff when she was a baby about it, but I just kept with it. Now I bring a crate with me whenever I take her anywhere and if she gets overwhelmed with other people in this "other place" she just escapes to her "den" to chill out. I even catch her sometimes putting herself to bed (even though she has the run of the house at night) whenever I stay up late and she wants to go to sleep.
When I wear Waffle out particularly well, we come home and he goes STRAIGHT upstairs and into his crate for about an hour. That's his way of saying "Do not even look at me, I am so tired." :3 My Grandma thinks it's the greatest thing ever.
Mine are both crate trained, but they rarely go into their crate voluntarily. The cat, however, loves to hang out in Jack's crate. I should try to get a picture of it.
That is a great spot too because they can see you while resting. I only crate train for the first year but Izzy obviously likes it but since there is no crate this is what she does.
That is awesome!! Since merlin is a pound pup I don't think the crate thing is gonna work so well but if I ever get another that's not then it'll be crate trained.
All three of my Corgis have been crate trained. Done properly the crate becomes their little safe getaway spot from the rest of the household, and who doesn't need one of those once in a while? Good job with your two pals!
