At what point do you admit defeat? When the new puppy gets a case of Giardia that refuses to go away? How about when another dog injures his knee? Or maybe it's when the injured dog is going stir crazy from the past week of crate rest and the puppy (who has been doing fine for a month) magically comes down with horrid diarrhea again early on a Monday morning? Wherever the "defeat admitting point" is, I think I'm almost there. Dog-wise (aka budget- and sanity- wise) it has been a terrible month and a half.

I kid you not, if one more thing goes wrong, I'm putting all three dogs on a street corner with a sign that says "Take Me" and sticking with plants.

oh boy, when it rains it sure does pour! Sorry to hear about all that (and Giardia can be hard to eradicate on a first try, because I think the medicine only kills one stage of the lifecycle, so two doses can be needed -- hope that's all the diarrhea is!).

I know you're just kidding, and I hate to be overly maudlin, but two of my friends have had to put down their elderly, ill dogs, and one is a friend in her 80s who is now thinking her beloved TJ was her last. So every time I get peeved at these two (and they can annoy, no doubt about it), I think of my friends and give the pups the hugs they so richly deserve for being the loving but sometimes annoying companions they are every day.

How are you keeping Sky entertained? Seanna is so mad at me, she is so bored in her mini-play area. At first she goes in, cries/whines, stares (glares) me down, then turns her back to me. She is really taking this personally. I'm kind of hesitant to get the Kongs and put treats in there for her to get out, as we try so hard to keep her weight down. I'd like to try something to keep her entertained. We are going outside in a little bit with her play area so she can sit in the sun and watch the birds for awhile, but what else can I do to keep her little mind occupied??

Thanks guys! I hope everyone knows I would never really get rid of my dogs. I love my little wigglebutts (or in the puppy's case, my BIG wigglebutt) too much, and I am awful with plants. It has been a very stressful few weeks though and I am just ready for this all to stop!

Sometimes everything goes wrong and the frustration level can get really high. You have definitely not had a good few weeks! One day you'll look back and laugh. This too shall pass. Lock them all up, take a deep breath, go out to the bar and spend a few hours there and by then you'll be thrilled that you can come home to the dogs again. :-)

Make sure it's Giardia this time. Could be something else picked up because the immune system was weakened with antibiotics.
Invest in dog insurance. Basic plan from Pets Best is about $23 a months, covers injuries and diseases. This won't help now but might in the future.
Apply for Care Credit to pay for vet visits. They have promotions like no interest if you pay your balance in full in 3-6 months.

Been there! It's part of life at sometime for most people! Hang in there things have to get better eventually! Just look at their faces and remember that's why they are worth it all! It's not easy trying to cuddle plants!

When I was walking down the gereatic road with my Shuffles I used to think the same thing 410k loans to pay for pancretitus and special food with a mind boggling price then the never ending liver value tests to moniter his falure rate, special heated pet beds, ramps so he could get out and poddy safely.....but then I just take one look at him and those feelings would disapear after all that was what it was about giving him support and love, he had no idea what money or stress was I was his Mom.
