Hi everyone,

So, my corgi is 1 year old now and I live with my parents and while I'm at work my mom always gives my corgi walks in the morning.

But for the past month my mom says my dog refuses to go out for a walk with her! Like he just sits and my mom drags him, then my mom sighs and says okay lets go home, and then he gets up and walks back to the house.

But whenever I take him out for walks he WALKS!

I honestly would prefer my mom giving him a walk in the morning and then when I come back from work I do a good 15 minute fetch time with him before it gets dark.

But now I come home from work and give my dog a brisk walk and we don't really have time for fetch because usually about that time dinner is about to start!

I'm wondering if my corgi doesn't trust my mom walking him anymore or something? (Twice when my mom has walked him in our neighborhood some neighborhood dogs went after my dog...)

So my mom tried the treat method...but...it only worked for like half a block.

My corgi (weird I know) doesn't go all crazy for food and cookies like most dogs haha

I have a hard enough time trying to get him to eat his meal!

Any other suggestions?

When my Corgis were younger they didn't like to walk when it is too warm or too noisy.  They liked it cool and quiet. Using very good treats are helpful as well.  But now they are 5 so they are  a lot better about walking but if it is too warm for them, they will quickly take care of their business and turn around to go home.  Good luck!

I have to laugh. My Bertie will go with no one but me, and Ethel will not go with anyone (including me) unless Bertie comes too.  I like to think it's love, but who knows.  I was visiting my mother a couple of summers ago at a beach, and while I was out, she tried to take Bertie for a walk, but he wouldn't go past the front walk.  When I was ill once, a friend with dogs who Bertie knows and loves came to take him walkies with them.  He put on his leash and happily trotted with her to the front door, then lay down on the stoop and refused to budge.  Food will help -- but their attachment and stubbornness is amazing.

We have been having the same issue with our 2 year old. Randomly he will just decide that he is done walking and turns into a corgi statue. (As a side note, I think our boy has the will to double his weight at this time too because trying to get him to move is like moving a 60 pound boulder!) The treats have worked mostly for us... I'm just finding it hard to distract him from whatever it is that is making him stop. I try to avoid treating him at that time so it doesn't seem like he is getting treated for being scared... Hoping it all works out for you!

Buy some cheese filled hot dogs and microwave them. When u start out on the walk give him one. He won't be able to resist ;) he will go where ever those warm hot dogs go

Potus had done this before but only when its been really cold outside- he's decided its too cold and he wants to go back inside. I'm guessing that's not the issue for yours though...

Sometimes it is not worth the trouble to try to figure out what caused the situation (corgi brains are very complex). Just do not allow the nonsense. Treats usually work and if all else fails dragging usually won't last long. Give a corgi an inch and they will take a mile. As long as there doesn't appear to be an injury I would tell Mom to think about a defiant toddler and break out little treats for the beginning of the walk but keep walking.

Hi Michelle, that could have been it, however, most corgis would do anything for food, so have your mom bring great treats along the walk, every time he sits on command or pay attention when his name is called, reward him immediately.
