Well, the Saugatuck trip came and went! All the preparations seemed to take longer than the whole trip, trying to figure out who was coming and who was staying, but after 1,000 changes we were on our way. Lance was suppose to stay home and was being watched by Grandma and Grandpa who were coming from the upper Peninsula of Michigan until Grandma ended up in the hospital not feeling well, and after some tests was diagnosed with arthritis of her neck. We didn't want them traveling all that way, nor did they want to, which was totally understandable. My brother, his wife and their daughter (1 1/2), were coming and staying with us in a house we were renting, until they found out my brothers wifes grandma was in a very serious car crash, and had to be air lifted to the hospital, as her brain was bleeding! So, they were on their way to Minnesota and not Michigan. My kids were going to babysit my niece while we were all celebrating my sisters 40th, the whole reason for the trip and the reason why I only wanted one dog with us, didn't want to overload the kids or dog(s). The other reason for having Lance watched at home was his medicine schedule and potty schedule (due to medicine) he is on. We made it work so that we all could go as a family, and no one would have to stay home.
We finally decided after lots of going back and forth about what to do with Lance, that we would bring him with. He doesn't seem to enjoy large crowds of people, I think they make him nervous and he wants everyone in order! My husband and I had some errands to do, so Tucker stayed home with my Dad and brother and we took Lance with us, and we walked around town. Lance got lots of attention, I overheard someone trying to guess what he was, so I had to chime in and say, Corgi!! I was amazed at how much attention he got,,it was almost non stop for a whole block. Lance handled the attention all in stride, no barking and scaring off anyone. :) He was enjoying his spotlight. I could see why some people may have thought he was a mix, they had a legitimate reason to think that.
So, Lance got to burn off some energy and get oohed and ahhed over, life was good. Tucker is a mellow guy, so as much as I wanted to take him with, it would have made running into shops a bit difficult for my husband to hold onto two leashes, while I was shopping. Oh, and as I was shopping for a card for my sister, (oops, forgot to get that before we left), I ran into a doggie shop and bought Lance a thundershirt. I have been wanting to buy one for the longest time, but kept putting it off, thinking one day I will, well once I saw it, I said, Im getting it, couldn't just walk away from it. I thought this would be the perfect time to try it out, since we were staying at the house and had multiple guests over at a time. He seemed to be wary of my sisters mother in law, barking, and not wanting to stop, it was the first time he had ever seen/met her, so maybe that is why. I tried the thundershirt on him while we were there:
I got the Large for him, I think this is the right size for him as I think the XL, would be too big. I really did think it worked. The other thing I did was to have Lance upstairs in the bedroom until everyone arrived and then had him come downstairs when people were settled and he seemed to do better with that routine.
Took Tucker and Lance for a quick trip, down the block, could have waked but we weren't sure how close the store was. This was a treat for the both of them to not be crated or seat belted:
Everyone relaxing after we first get there:
The next day:
Tucker all ready to go, before I could say, don't let Tucker jump up into the van, there he was in between the two crates, ready to get going, he loves the car! Here he is in his crate:
Thanks for reading through this post/book. If you are ever in Saguatuck, I recommend eating at the Butler, very good food!! It is a great town to stay in also, I see why my sister was persistent in having her celebration there. We almost had our first vacation with all my siblings in one place, but as I stated above it wasn't able to happen, and my sister in law to be was also going but got a job offer that had her in Germany that week and the next couple weeks after that. One day, we will get all the siblings together hopefully in Saugatuck. My brother flew in from Washington, so it would have been nice to have everyone together, well C'est La Vie Thats life, if my french serves me correctly!!
PS: I forgot to say, sneaking back into the house after most everyone at the house is asleep is quite tricky, lol. Lance and Tucker were both crated the first night, as I thought that would be best, well after two potty breaks and back in the crate, they had a very hard time settling down, I didn't get much sleep the first night at all. The second night, I snuck in, was way better as we decided to let the dogs sleep out of their crates, and settled right down, when I crawled in bed. Lance was snuggled on the bed with us and then jumped down and laid on the floor and Tucker snuggled on my daughters pillow, so cute!! That was their special treat as we don't have them in our room at night time.

Sounds like fun and I love the photos of the boys together!
May I ask how much Lance weighs? I was considering trying out a thundershirt but I'm not sure which size to get...I figured a medium for Henry but I wonder if Luke is going to need a large. I was hoping to just get one since Henry only needs it during thunderstorms and Luke needs it more for busy social interactions, but I think that plan might be out the window lol.
Thanks everyone, it really was nice to get away.
Alison, my sister in laws grandma is out of ICU, but still has a long way to recovery! My mother in law is doing well as far as I know, so hopefully things will keep improving for the both of them. When it rains it pours!
Bev, that is awesome, it is a small world! Where do you stay in Saugatuck? I know exactly the spot you are talking about that keeps the bowl of dog treats out in front of it, we passed right by it! Luckily, Lance didn't spot it!!!! I meant to check to see if the dog store I stopped in had any corgi stuff, and got side tracked when I saw they carried the thundershirt, and at 40.00 for the shirt, wasn't looking to spend any more money at the moment. Have you ever eaten at the Bulter?
Thanks for sharing your trip with us. How are both grandma's doing? Goodness that is a lot of family emergencies in such a short time. I love seeing pictures of Lance and Tucker together. From the looks of it, Lance seemed to be feeling well enough to make the trip. Glad both boys could come and you all had a wonderful time.
In these photos, Lance and Tucker seem to enjoy this trip :-) They always look so cute together. And glad you had a good time in Saguatuck, too. Sorry to hear that there were unfortunate health problems of your family members.
