I was wondering when you guys noticed your corgi changing into the temperament of an adult dog. My little guy is exactly 11 months old now, and I'm noticing a few more laid back tendencies in him, however, he is nowhere close to calm. In fact, recently, you can't turn around and trust him near any shoes.

My trainer said not to expect him to be tempered as an adult until 2 years of age. I can tell Rocky isn't done growing (he's only 23 lbs) but I was wondering if you guys knew what to expect, or would share your experiences. I know that all dogs are different, so my experience will be different, but I was wondering if there was a general trend.

Generally around two for all the corgis I have had. Our dobe is 6 and we are still waiting to see some maturity!! Some dogs don't calm down a lot. Sparty has always been very high energy and at ten he has calmed down. He still plays like a puppy though. Izzy was always a calmer puppy and at almost three she is very mellow.

Yoda is only 8 months, but he is starting to need his comfort zone, he does not like to be hugged anymore :(, however, he is still hyper!

Domino is about to be 2 in February and I have noticed lately that she is being slightly more calm now. She doesn't jump up as much on people as she used to and she's learned how to 'trot' on her leash rather than run as fast as she can until it's taught and dragging me behind it.

Cooper was always a laid back dog, but still had his puppy moments. He is 2 now and completely mature and will lay by my feet while I'm watching TV.

Something Katy said reminded me about children...exactly the same thing but I had many more years with them before they realized that I was not this mean person just doing things to make their life miserable!

Jack knew all his obedience commands but was still very immature (short attention span, needed to play 24/7, etc) until he hit about 20 months. Anywhere between 18 months and 2 years is typical for a medium dog, with 1 being not uncommon for a toy breed and 3 being more the norm for a large breed. Keep in mind it's a gradual change that continues to some degree through the dogs life, and not a sudden "Now he's all grown up!" moment.

A very fit dog will revert to puppy-like behavior when the weather first starts to get cool after a hot summer, for example. A younger dog/ older puppy may act pretty calm and mature if it's hot and muggy and they are lacking energy.

Depends on the dog but I would say 2 too! There was a very definate switch for my Bella and she has become the most wonderful corgi BUT oh was she stubborn b/4 then! My Livvy is 15 months and still not near adulthood. Wynn was always much more mature then any of mine...so it does depend but I agree with your trainer!
