...his stomach is as tight a s a drum. He is a 3 year-old male, but looks pregnant. Labored movements. He looks so pitiful. He can't go up or down stairs. I have to carry him outside to do his business. Daily diarrhea. Still has appetite though (He's on Wellness Adult). The vet told us to get Zantax, and said to bring him in if he doesn't get better over the weekend, but I can't bare watch him suffer. I wish there was something I could do......

Anyone ran into this?

Build up of gas???? We had a problem with Bella earlier this year and she was on Pepcid(I believe but can't remember). Then found out it was maybe a food allergy that caused 10 days woth of trying all kinds of things. Glad to hear he's going in!

Keeping all paws crossed that he is ok.  Please keep us updated.   Poor little guy.

Just wondering if dogs get IBD--- almost sounds like the symptoms of a person with ulcerative colitis or something.  :-(

Dogs and cats do get IBD. It does sound similar. I'm betting its a food allergy causing the food to ferment and create a lot of gas, because it really does sound like a dog who has bloat, minus the fact that he isn't vomiting. Poor guy! How is he doing?

It is now 1125 they should coming back from the vets office. We all are waiting to hear.......

well, x-rays showed Tod's got an enlarged liver:(    It is quite enlarged. They called for a radiologist. I am bringing Tod in early Monday morning for ultrasound and biopsy. I am scared to say the least.

On the practical note: does anyone know how much would those tests run (ultrasound and biopsy)?

Thank you all for your prayers!

I have no idea but I hope that Tod feels better soon and that they can get the issue resolved! Our prayers are with you and Tod.

Oh, so sorry!  Hope they can find and fix the problem.   Sorry, I have no idea about the cost of either.   If it's a needle biopsy it shouldn't be too much but if they need to go in of course it would be more.    Best wishes.

yes, Beth, it's a needle biopsy ....

at our vet an ultrasound usually runs about $350 with a needle biopsy being around $300+ as well. The biopsy is more of a guess because it depends on the main meds/sedatives/technique used to obtain the sample. My guess is you will be leaving for $700-$1000. The vet should be able to give you an estimate for your area, California tends to be more expensive than other parts of the country. Poor Tod, I hope he feels better! A radiologist and internist said Franklin had an enlarged heart but ultrasound showed it was in tip top shape and I found out from a vet that since corgi's are dwarfs, their organs tend to appear enlarged in x-ray to those who are not familiar with their confirmation. Is there a reason the vet wants to jump to a biopsy and bypass bloodwork first? Seems like they are jumping to the most expensive procedure right away, they can run a liver panel for much less than a biopsy and an ultrasound and liver panel may be diagnostic enough. Maybe something to discuss with your vet if prices get too high.

yes, they did the bloodwork...(i should have put that in the original post)

Did They do any bloodwork to see what his liver values are? Any chance he could have gotten into something toxic? Have no idea what your prices are like in the USA, but we just did an ultrasound on a dog at the clinic I work at in Canada last week. It was $465 for the ultrasound, $220 for the biopsies, $130 for histopathology at he lab for the biopsies. Corgi hugs to Tod - get better soon!
